resmed s9 broken?
resmed s9 broken?
I've noticed for around the last week I would wake up with my throat so dry I thought it was on fire. I know in the past I would turn on the machine and I could feel water coming out when I put the mask (swift LX) on, but it's not doing that anymore. I even turned up the level to 6, it didn't help. Anyone see anything like that? I'm starting to think the CPAP is broken. I also tape my mouth shut at night so I know I'm not mouth-breathing. Thanks.

How long have you had the machine?
Have you tried cleaning all the parts, following the directions that came with the machine? Sometimes dust gets in the strangest places.

A couple of things to try,
1. Is the water in the H5i dropping at all any (regardless of amount)? If it is, that means the humidifier is working.
a. Make sure there isn't a leak in the tubing or mask assembly or that the H5i door isn't shut all the way. The leak numbers should show all of this.
2. If it isn't, then the H5i isn't heating.
a. Make sure the H5i is fully inserted into the S9 slot. Detach it and reattach it to make sure it snaps into place.
b. Unplug the machine entirely, let it power down for 3 min and plug it back in. Try another night to see if it starts working again.
3. You may have an issue with your H5i.
4. Very unlikely, but there could be an issue with the S9 itself.

Re: resmed s9 broken?
I agree with Alshain about the testing points, especially the water level dropping in the humidifier. But in my case, I have nights when my mouth gets really dry when my humidifier is set at 5. Like last night. In this case I blame the mask cushion Silicone seal flapping like crazy and causing leaks and false snores. Could be b/c I raised the max pressure to 15 cm. So at about 1 a. m. I got up to rinse my mouth and also spritzed it with Biotene spritzer (which I get at Walgreen's). But before 2 a. m. the mouth dryness started again and I just spritzed my mouth without getting up. When I awoke at 3 a.m. I got fed up and took the mask off and put it aside and slept till 5 a. m. without CPAP. Then I rinsed my mouth again, put the mask on and slept with CPAP till 7 a.m. Such situations do not occur to me often. I think that am harbouring a cold or something. Being retired and able to sleep till 8 a.m. I often take my mask off during the night and stop the machine for two to three hours. BUT I DON"T RECOMMEND IT TO OTHERS.
The water in my humidifier usually drops to one 1/4, and I don't use heating.
proboscis, I am back here after 5 hours since I posted. You still have not entered the type of mask that you're using. I would like to add the following: If you are NOT a mouth breather then no air is going thru your mouth, and why should it be wet? In such a situation the moisturized air would go to your lungs and the extra moisture would come out while you exp irate thru your nose and be vented thru the intentional venting holes in the mask. An indication to such a situation is that your T-shirt under the mask becomes wet. During the night that I have described above I had to replace my T-shirt four times b/c of this.
Dry mouth could also be caused by age, Diabetes, and certain medication.

Re: resmed s9 broken?
An easy way to check if your humidifier is heating is to set it to one of the higher numbers. take out the tank, and hold down the dial for three seconds to start "warm up" mode. In a short time, the plate should get warm. If it doesn't, either the humidifier isn't connected properly, or something needs fixing.
