How Long Did it Take?
Re: How Long Did it Take?
I'm so thankful for the insight. Really excited for the day when the whole thing becomes automatic. There was a post on another thread about the fit of the mask and I realized my mask has been too tight. Maybe with more experimentation tonight I can loosen and relax a little easier.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Six hours!
Woke up several times with chipmunk cheeks and the like, but there was some actual sleep involved

Good for you Resister! Progress! it's going to be better! kathy
Any landing you walk away from is a good one; if you don't break your airplane it's excellent.
Re: How Long Did it Take?
It will be a month for me on Aug. 6. Last nite I slept thru the nite for the first time!! Did not get up once to go to the bathroom. The morning headaches have been cut in half. I still don't feel absolutely wonderful every day, but I honestly believe that will improve with time, just as everything else has.
Now, a little weight loss would be nice.
Put the mask back on if you take a bathroom break. It's part of getting use to using it every time you lie down to sleep... even naps.

I really do think sleeping through the night is a big milestone.
My next milestone to hope for/work toward is sleeping all night without waking up

This is what I'm still dealing with. It seems like I slept "all night long", but when I look at the data from the SD card it's 4.5 - 6.0 hours tops. No wonder I'm still sleeping my weekends away ...Pugsy wrote:I was stuck on 4 to 5 hours for months and it wasn't waking up to go to the bathroom that was causing the short hours. I had other issues unrelated to OSA.

It normally work when you use it as you stop the use of this. it don't drop any effect further more. It is just use to make the solution at the spot not for the long run.
Re: How Long Did it Take?
I slept through the night with it from Night #1. Every now and then had a restless night, but I did before trying cpap, and I didn't let it faze me.
Unfortunately, with 2 attempts to use cpap for about 3 months each time, my daytime functioning decreased to the point I had to discontinue use. My dr couldn't figure out what was causing this, and therefore how to respond to it.
I'd MUCH rather have your problem; that one I know how to fix and it's pretty straightforward. You sound motivated, so I'm sure you'll be successful.

Yikes! You must have been frustrated. So strange considering you were able to sleep with it right off.Jade wrote:I slept through the night with it from Night #1. Every now and then had a restless night, but I did before trying cpap, and I didn't let it faze me.

Re: How Long Did it Take?
Resister, yes, it has been a frustrating experience. It really shocked me as I was totally unprepared for the possibility of that happening--esp. with such an initially smooth transition to it.
It's also left me at a bit of a loss on how to proceed. I don't know how to find a dr who has successfully helped patients with something similar, and have no coverage to go out-state and see one of the "big names". I'd figure out a way to pay for it, however, if I could learn there's some reasonable indication one of them could help me.

Re: How Long Did it Take?
I am a 53 year old female, and recently diagnosed with severe OSA(seems to run in the family, as my mother and 2 brothers also have severe OSA). I started on CPAP 3 weeks ago. I am keeping the mask on 7+ hours a night, but I am still waking 4-6 times in that 7 hour period. I do not get up to go to the bathroom(I used to most every night before CPAP). I have had one night since starting to use the CPAP that I only woke once. My AHIs range from zero to average of 0.6/hr, no mask leaks, so I know the machine is doing what it's supposes to do. I am not feeling well rested at all. I have made different adjustments to the machine, so I am getting to sleep faster, but still waking frequently. I am going to try a different mask to see if that helps. I am using the DreamWear nasal mask, which itself is comfortable. I think maybe the frame is just too thick when I am lying on my side and it is uncomfortable on the side if my case when I am on my side. I have no choice but to use the CPAP but I am discouraged that I am not feeling any more rested than I am and still waking so often during the night. I am not performing as well at work and just wish I could take time off until I get used to CPAP, but that is not an option. Maybe I am being too hard on myself and I just need to be more patient and give it more time.

That is my story too. I think in my case it was a question of severity. I was so exhausted that the idea of not being able to sleep (either in the sleep lab or at home) was just unthinkable.ameriken wrote:I felt so horrible every day that I couldn't wait to put it on, I was really excited when they delivered the machine. After they set it up, I took a nap with it that afternoon, and then went to bed early that night with it. Have had no problems dealing with anxiety, claustrophobia, or anything else like that.
