RESMED S8 Elite Data cable
Where can I buy one to connect to my CPAP machine to see settings?
Re: RESMED S8 Elite Data cable
I don't know. Did you try contacting Resmed? The card reader can still be found online, though that's getting to be pretty rare too.NorthStar34 wrote:Where can I buy one to connect to my CPAP machine to see settings?

Unsure what you mean by "see settings".. All settings and data can be seen on the machine's LED screen. If you can't see anything at all then they have been disabled and can be turned on via the clinical setup menu.
If you mean see the reports via using the software then you will of course need the cable or the smart card and card reader. The smart card reader is hard to find and the cable is much harder to find as it needs to be a null modem cable which doesn't seem to be produced anymore.

Just a standard null modem cable? What connectors does it have?Pugsy wrote:The smart card reader is hard to find and the cable is much harder to find as it needs to be a null modem cable which doesn't seem to be produced anymore.
Do any of these look right?

I have no idea. Never used ResMed machine. The null modem cable is old technology.Otter wrote:Just a standard null modem cable? What connectors does it have?

From what I read 2 years ago, even back then the particular null modem cable was hard to find. I am not a hardware geek but someone who is might know.

You can see the settings quite adequatley on the display on the S8 by accessing the clinical menu. If you want to see the available longitudinal treatment data, then you will nee a data connection of some sort to the S8.NorthStar34 wrote:Where can I buy one to connect to my CPAP machine to see settings?
If you are after longitudinal treatment data, you need a Resmed "22203 ResScan USB Adapter (with cable)". It looks like this.....

The cable has a USB standard connector on one end, a mini USB connecrtor on the other end, and an adapter that replaces the card slot cover on the S8.
Its available in Australia.....

.... but you would have to hunt around for yourself to see if its available elsewhere.
The other option is to use the ResScan smartcard and companion card reader, however, suitable readers are getting hard to find nowadays. There are numerous existing message threads on CPAPtalk on that topic.
Cheers,
Bill

The cable alone won't do it, then.billbolton wrote:The cable has a USB standard connector on one end, a mini USB connecrtor on the other end, and an adapter that replaces the card slot cover on the S8.
These might still be available. They might be out of stock, but at least these two sites list the reader. The other option is to use the ResScan smartcard and companion card reader, however, suitable readers are getting hard to find nowadays. The increasing rarity of these parts is why I rejected the s8. Resmed really should make this stuff available. It's very bad CS to abandon the s8 so quickly.

As far as I'm aware, Resmed does have it available. The problem seems to be that US resellers aren't interested in stocking older kitOtter wrote:Resmed really should make this stuff available. It's very bad CS to abandon the s8 so quickly.

Re: RESMED S8 Elite Data cable
If there is a 9 pin (male) connector on the back of your unit, then you need a null-modem serial cable. The typical null-modem serial cable is still produced, and can be found at most computer stores (I got one at Frys last week). You will also need a way to connect your mull-modem cable to your computer. Unfortunately, most PCs these days don't have serial cables. What I did was to get a USB to Serial (9-pin) adaptor (cost about $9). As the USB to Serial adaptor was male, my null-modem cable needed to be female to female. Fortunately, the typical null-model cable is female to female.
One note on null-modem serial cables. The one I got said "direct" on the front. This threw me for a while, because I wanted a null-modem cable. Null-modem was in the fine print on the back of the package.
Once you get the right cables, you will need software, which is a whole different issue.

Re: RESMED S8 Elite Data cable
Have you had any luck with this, NorthStar?

This is just the sort of post that I find annoying. The poster clearly doesn't know the answer but still insists on adding their 'view'. The information given is completely irrelevant and useless to the OP. The poster hasn't read the thread. If they had, they would know the question has been answered. Unfortunately, this type of poster exists across all internet forums and we have to live with them. But sometimes I need to rant.
Re: RESMED S8 Elite Data cable
I agree with you in general, but I tend to see things like that as signs of brain fog on this forum. If an OSA zombie can't stumble around and make inappropriate comments here, then where's he to go?Guest wrote:This is just the sort of post that I find annoying. And btw, the OP's OQ never was answered, unless you're saying the answer is, "Australia."
Seems no one in the US is selling them, but if we keep bumping this thread long enough, maybe someone will happen by who doesn't need the adapter and cable anymore because the s8 that went with it has died.NorthStar34 wrote:Where can I buy one to connect to my CPAP machine to see settings?
