New Respironics ComfortLite mask w/ flexible headgear

Post by Guest » Sat Feb 04, 2006 9:24 pm

A few months ago I was told by my DME that Respironics was introducing a new version of the ComfortLite mask with a flexible (strap) headgear instead of the hard plastic system they currently have.

Has anyone heard any more info on this or seen it first hand? I heard it was supposed to be introduced to the public in Jan '06.

I sure thought there would be some talk of this on this fourm, but I have seen nothing. Just curious.

I did see the "hard" style ComfortLite being used as a prop on a TV show a night or two ago, even mentioned Bipap I think. (It was ER or some show like that). I was impressed by how well the guy could talk with CPAP blowing up his nose....obviously just a prop....

Haven't heard any more about it, Guest, or seen it. Have only seen a picture of it with redesigned headgear. Don't know if that's the way the finished version will look or not:

Hey Rested Gal! You clever girl...
Where did you find that pic of the new Comfort-Lite? I'm impressed -best I found was the updated Comfort-Lite that has minor modifications of the existing headgear whereas the pic you found looks to be a whole new redesign.
Well done!

According to the Respironics Execs, this is the interface that will bring back customers they've lost to ResMed.

Looks like an Aura/Breeze combination to me.
Sincerely,

Doesnt' that look like a combination of Breeze and Aura headgears?

Here's their information page for the new ComfortLite:
http://comfortseries.respironics.com/lite.htm

Watch the video on that page. I couldn't get the "WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER - HIGHBANDWIDTH" link to work but the link in the "* If you are having problems viewing the video with Windows Media Player click here." worked.

I new to this so I've only tried two masks but I think I will try to get one of these for my next mask.

The site that this link takes you to is the original ComfortLite interface.

The second generation of this mask looks the same, but is made of sturdier material in the headgear so that it is less likely to break. Also, instead of having friction-fit adjustments on the headgear, it has lock & key type adjusters so that it is less likely to come apart. The colour of the headgear material is changed as well.

The third generation of this mask, the picture that Rested Gal shows in her post, makes use of the original nasal pillow but is a complete redesign of the headgear. It looks as though Respironics has decided that the Aura headgear is a success and has adapted the Comfort-Lite accordingly.

I'm really looking forward to trying one of the third-generation Comfort-Lites as I find the Comfort-Lite nasal pillow to be pretty good. Given that they have continued with the same pillow section, this mask could be great if the headgear is stable and comfortable.

I wonder if the swivel has changed? Is the Aura box like head gear does anything to improve air circulation to prevent sweating?

I wonder if this will work with a a cpap that is set at 20 ?

I went to my Dr. today and asked about having another sleep study and she said we needed to wait until the end of next month, closer to a Year.

Then I will be able to get Remstar Pro2 with Cflex, instead of my Remstar Plus.

Also I have lost a lot of weight so maybe by the time I can get a new sleep study I will have lost a few more pounds and not have to use the CPAP unit I have any longer.
I have lost a good amount of weight.

Wow. This is a cosmic experience. 2 great minds with but a single thought at the exact same moment, an ocean apart, in different continents.....

Great minds think alike / fools seldom differ / idiots notice... you figure it out.

I'm underwhelmed.

Where is the exhaust port? Does the bed partner still get blown away, as with the Breeze?

This new Comfort-Lite 2 uses the same pillows as the previous version of Comfort-Lite. The exhaust port is at the point where the silicone of the pillow section meets the rigid clear plastic. If you look at the pic that Rested Gal posted, you can see (hopefully) that the tube coming down from the forehead area is essentially clear. Then, there is a silicone "J" section that is the actual pillow -the exhaust port is at the point where these two meet which, is just about at the tip of where your nose would be when you are wearing the device.

The exhaust port is actually many small holes that allow the air to diffuse out of the device WITHOUT a strong stream of air as in the Breeze. You or partner might notice some blowing of air, but certainly NOT the jet blast that one gets from the Breeze.

The good news with the Comfort-Lite 2 is that, according to the Respironics Rep., the nasal pillows from existing Comfort-Lite interfaces WILL fit the new Comfort-Lite 2.

I used the original Comfort-Lite for quite some time and really found it to be comfortable at the pillow section. Unfortunately, the headgear was prone to breakage and, if one sleeps on their side, the stability could be wonky due to the unforgiving rigidity of the headgear. This new headgear really looks promising.
