Strange and disconcerting event with my 2.5 month-old S9/humidifier:
I had turned the unit on and activated the humidifier warm-up. I popped the SD card out to look at the stats and about 5 minutes later popped it back in. I noticed the display read "Reading card" and I walked away to check email/etc for a bit. This was all in prep to go to bed, but I got wrapped up online for about 45 minutes.
Somewhere along the line, either when taking the card out or replacing it, the unit must have locked up. The humidifier had been preheating all this time. The outside of the humidifier unit was extremely warm, and the water in the tank was almost too hot to touch (it steamed up when I poured it out in the sink.)
Has this happened to anyone else? My worry is that the heat caused damage in some non-obvious way, and that if it's no longer monitoring/regulating temperature accurately (i.e, if a temp sensor got fried) I won't really know.
Any experience or reassurance welcome.

Re: S9 Humidifier Overheat
Resmed did have some problems with the h5i humidifiers. I had to return mine under warranty. They replaced it. I did not have that particular problem but you might want to check it out with your provider or Resmed.

Re: S9 Humidifier Overheat
I have only 4.5 months on my Autoset S9 with H5i humidifier. A couple of times I have waked up feeling like I am in rain forest. I turned the heat down to 70 and it seems to have been better.
However, a couple of nights ago, after warming the water for 30-40 minutes, I turned the unit on and immediately noticed the high humidity. The water temp was 124 degrees and there was condensation all over the inside of the humidifier. I did not use the humidifier for two nights. Tonight I duplicated the problem with the same scenario I had used 2 nights ago.
1. pressed warming
2. inserted the SD chip with write protect switched in protected position
3. 30 minutes later unit was HOT with condensation
So I have a way to recreate the problem. It seems to me they must have a an error in their programming to allow such a sequence of events to cripple temperature control.
I will be keeping a close eye on the issue and the sequence of operations that I use.

It has an automatic shut down when it reaches a certain temperature.chrisinaustin wrote:Somewhere along the line, either when taking the card out or replacing it, the unit must have locked up. Unless that feature was defective, you should not have reached a high enough temperature to do any damage.
Future use without any problems will be the only way to ascertain for sure.
