Need pillow for side sleeper that eliminates neck pain

Post by Bobby269 » Sat Jul 02, 2011 9:51 am

I need to switch to a different pillow, something that eliminates neck pain.Prior to becoming a hose head the pillow I used was great, but not compatible with a mask
My mask of choice at this time is the Quatro FX full face from resmed. I am a side sleeper using the Fx mask. Is anyone having success using a Buck wheat
pillow with my type of equipment. Presently I'm using a Contour Cpap pillow the 5" thick model. It's a good pillow but it doesn't support my neck properly
and It gives me stiffness in one spot on the right side of my neck. It works great with the mask otherwise.
Thank you in advance for any help that all of you can offer.

I don't use your type of mask but I do use a buckwheat pillow and I am predominately as side sleeper.
I also have a bad arthritic neck with a metal plate in it.

I absolutely love the buckwheat pillow. I can make a little place for the mask and I can adjust the hulls to give me the correct support that my neck needs. I happen to use the Regenesis Buckwheat pillow but there are other brands and sizes.

I have all of one night and one nap with a Quattro FX mask. I use a duo pillow, one side buckwheat and one side millet. It seems to work fine with the mask. I mostly sleep on my side or stomach. As the prior poster said, you make a ditch for the mask. The hulls are good at staying in place.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my new buckwheat pillow! I don't use your mask, I use the swift FX. but, I am mainly a side sleeper and this pillow works wonderfully with my setup. The pillow pretty much stays in place all night. I just make an indention in the hulls for the mask. If i happen to roll around a little bit during the night, I don't have any problems getting readjusted.

Good luck!!

Jeff

Marietjie. You are correct while using that pillow all my neck pains went away. For some reason ( side sleeper ) my left ear gets very sore with this pillow.
I'm going to invest in another pillow to add to my collection. Hopefully I can position the Buck wheat pillow so that it is easy on my neck and works fine with my mask.

Thanks to everyone for their help.

I have a kind of unique pillow that has finally eliminated my neck pain. Back story is:
Now, I freely admit that I'm a "pillow junkie". I've owned over 50 different types. My family makes fun of me for trying so many. I had resorted to hiding them in my car until no one was around to bring them in the house! At first I was collecting pillows to raise my head to be able to breathe better . That was before I found out that the problem was untreated OSA.
After I got diagnosed, I tried to find one that would support me and not get in the way of my mask.
In the process of collecting pillows, I bought the Align Right cervical pillow. It looks like a neck roll. I was very skeptical, and besides, it was expensive. But I read the testimonials and took the plunge.
I used it a few times, pre- CPAP, and wasn't all that impressed . I used it as a decoration on my bed.
But, recently, my neck pain was so bad, that I tried it again, this time reading the directions, and now I'm in love. It truly feels like a full pillow and the support is amazing. It doesn't interfere with my mask, because it's not bulky. My neck pain is gone.
The only thing I don't like is that it gets pretty warm, and I can't punch it a flip it to find a cool spot.
Google it, if you'd like to check it out, or I can send a link.

Link didn't work, I think this is the one (there was one too many d's): http://www.padacheek.com

Thanks for the recommendation, I'm going to check those out myself as well.

Yes I do have covers for the lower straps from Padacheek. My first Fx mask was easier to stop or prevent leaks. My new one has been a little more difficult. I
ordered the mask liner to help stop leaks early this morning.
I am going to give the buckwheat pillow a try. It looks like you can position it to give both neck support and work sleeping on my side with my mask.

I just purchased the Contour CPAPMax and I love it. I don't have any neck pains and the pillow supports every mask that I have. One feature that I love is the chin support. I'm a major mouth breather (at least I used to be before CPAP) and the bottom of the pillow keeps my mouth from opening.

I'm thinking about getting one of these since I wear a face mask and finding a comfortable position is impossible. How often do you have to refill/add new hulls?

Coming on 2 years using the Regenisis buckwheat pillow. I forget exactly when I got it but it was in 2009 late summer early fall. Haven't added any. Don't feel the need to. I see there is a larger Regenisis pillow now. Not that I need a larger but when I make up the king size bed it just looks off balance with the regular size.

Thanks. I just bought a pillow.

Someone mentioned earlier the 'duplex' buckwheat/millet pillow. I went to the 'Pillow Company' and they've got it in a standard size for $39.95 plus $12.15 shipping.

If anyone else is interested in this pillow, go to Amazon.... I found the same exact pillow for $35.95, plus they've got the free shipping option, save a total of $16.
