Worst Hair Style for xPAP Mask Headgear

Post by Paper_Nanny » Thu Jun 23, 2011 11:45 pm

I have dreadlocks. Every night when I put my mask on and get my headgear adjusted, I think to myself that dreads must be the worst hairstyle for those using xPAP therapy. I have to readjust the straps on my headgear every night because it fits differently depending on how many dreads are stuffed up above the headgear and how many are lying below. I have to readjust the dreads because sometimes, they will all end up piled in one place, making a big hard wad of hair. Not something I want to rest my head on! And, when I adjust the mask, the velcro tags almost always get stuck to my hair. So I am wondering, what problems have other people had with their hair and their headgear?

Lol! With your username I pictured you in my head like some sort of Mary Poppins figure, NOT dreadlocks!!!!

I have great hair for CPAP, actually. Curly mop top, short in the back. When the headgear messes it up, how can you tell?

Check out papcap. Those that use it say it keeps your hair from bundling all up.
Started cpap in 2010.. still at it with great results.

I don't have dreads, but my hair is very slippery so headgear moves around a lot, plus my hair got tangled and caught on the velcro.

I now use a PapCap chinstrap (you can wear it without the chinstrap), which covers my hair where the headgear goes and keeps everything in place all night - without my hair getting out of control. I do wake up with hat-hair or.. flat-hair, but that can be easily fixed.

You could also try a skullcap under your headgear.

Good luck!

Cheers,
xena

I have waist-length, very slippery hair.

With my CL2 mask or my Headrest, I have to pull it on, pull my hair through, and then pull the mask up on my head with the hair over the band.

With the Swift FX, it goes on easier, but slithers all night long, and I'm constantly having to readjust it. Not to mention I hate the pressure on my cheeks. If not for Pad-a-cheek's barrel cover and side strap covers, the FX would have gone in the trash after the first two hours.

After fighting for months with long, thick, slippery hair, I had it permed (once), and then cut,
(several times, looking for a right length) finally deciding on a short pixie,
cutting of nearly all of my old perm--(less curl is nicer)
I may get a loose perm in it, but it doesn't cause nearly the grief that it once did.
So very much better for the headgear.

I vote for Mohawk as the worst.

I don't HAVE one...but in the morning sometimes I have a "sideways mohawk" thing going on.

Oh, I'll bet using xpap with dreads is very tough!! I have very straight, fine, slick hair and the problem I have is that the chin strap and headgear slide around. That has been much improved by the velcro fix.

Of course, my hair has ridges in the morning from the straps. If I have washed it the night before, I can then fix it with a flat iron.

Good luck with the dreads and the xpap!

Some people use something called a Buff to keep their hair in place. Or you could try those wig caps the guys use.

Those suggestions were both good for some really good laughs.

I need to replace the velcro on part of my headgear. It came undone last night and then tangled itself in my hair. I woke up after a couple hours of a very large leak and went into the bathroom to untangle the mess. As I was working the velcro out of my hair, I was picturing what it would look like if I had the headgear tangled in a Mohawk or liberty spikes. I tried not to laugh out loud, but I did. Which made the dog start barking, which then woke Husband up. Poor guy!! He didn't think it was so funny in the middle of the night!

Thanks. That looks like something I may just invest in! Now to choose which one...
