Encore Pro 2 will not start

Post by ClayL » Sat Jun 18, 2011 9:56 am

A few months ago I successfully installed Encore Pro 2 - Version 2.4.12.2 on my laptop using Win 7 64 bit Home Premium. it worked fine and read info from the memory card.
I didn't use it for a couple of months because I have a loaner machine that only has compliance data.
A week or so ago I attempted to start Encore Pro and now get the following error.

Image

Has anyone had this happen or know how to fix the problem?

If no one has an answer I will uninstall and re-install the software and see if that helps.

Did you move those files? The database? or delete them?

Try running a scandisk. Oh and update your service packs.

Make sure SQL Server has the latest updates from Microsoft on your computer.

All updates are current. Haven't moved or deleted any files. As far as I can tell all SQl services that usually run are running.

Encore Pro 1.8.49 is still on the computer. It runs okay and connects to it's database.

Guess I will re-install Encore Pro 2 and see what happens.

Thanks for the replies.

Is there a link to installing EP 2.4 on a machine with EP 1.8? The SQL does not want to install with 2.4. I had the SQL Engine for a development app years ago and to install 1.8 I had to scrub the machine to rid all evidence of it. Yet I know you can have multiple databases on the SQL Engine. Must be getting old. This stuff isn't fun anymore!

I didn't know of one.
When I installed EP 2 the SQL installation and configuration took a very very long time - longer than I can remember for any other program. I thought the install was locked up. I found that if I waited long enough it would finally finish. Perhaps that happened during your installation?

Eh. I just click on the Okay. EP2.2.14.0 closes out quickly. Then I re-start EP2 and it works like nothing ever happened. EP2 is slower than molasses in January but .... this has worked for me every time. I have yet to figure out why sometimes this Error happens but it does relatively often, maybe 1 out of every 4-5 times I open EP2. I can't tell that I've done anything different when Exiting that would cause it the next time I open EP2 so I just live w/it as another facet of EP I don't like as compared to ResScan. *sigh*

I just tried that (four times) and it still won't start.

You made no mention of scandisk results?

Is something else on your computer using SQL? Thought about doing a restore to a point when it did work?

I got the same error today for the first time. I had installed various Microsoft updates a couple days ago, including trying to install the SQL Server 2008 SP2 update (which failed -- I assumed since I had a partial installation or something like that). Any chance you recently tried to do the same thing too?

I got it to work.
I was looking at the SQL services and saw that while SQL Server (ENCOREPRO2) was running, SQL Server Agent (ENCOREPRO2) was not and was set to "disabled".
I set it to "Automatic" and now EP starts up fine. I will check it again for the next few days and see if EP continues to start up okay.

Thanks to all for your interest and suggestions.

Likely on a clean machine without prior versions or any other app using SQL Engine it will install easily. Perhaps on most machines that are clean except for Encore Pro 1 it will install okay some times. In my case I have multiple SQL Engines from database development I did years ago and they show up in services. Of course the old SQL Engine is not compatible with the new, but disabling the services still leaves tracks that the new version doesn't like. Just looking for someone else to cut the forge the way.

Probably, but it shouldn't change an automatic setting on a dedicated server agent from auto to disabled. I think it may be magic.

This is list of all of the SQL services:
