My Nose Itches
My Nose Itches
I am using the Mirage SoftGel nasal mask. THis night, which was only about 4 hours long, i noticed my nose was itching a great deal . It kept actually waking me up. I was wondering, if I were to put Lanolish on my nose and nasal bridge area, would this cause any harm to the mask itself? Would the Lanolish cause any silicon breakdown so to speak?
i dont know why i was itching so much, and im not really red, except for a bit on the sides of the nose from the mask, so im not really thinking it was an allergic reaction.

Re: My Nose Itches
Lanisoh shouldn't harm the silicone cushion since it's 100% lanolin.
As to why your nose is itchy when you don't think it's an allergic reaction: Could be simple psychology at work---you can't REACH the top of the nose easily with the mask on and the fact that you can't touch it means that if it even itches slightly, you can't unconsciously rub it, which in turn makes you NOTICE the itching more, which in turn makes it itch more because you can't scratch it ....
Best of luck in finding a solution.

Re: My Nose Itches
You have a heated humidifier so I wonder if your skin has oil on it and is responding to the heat/moisture which then causes the skin to itch.
Before going to bed thoroughly/gently clean the face with a gentle cleansing product for your type of skin. If oily then use a product that reduces the oil without drying out the skin. If dry then use a cleanser that increases moisture protection. I like Aubrey Organics because the ingredients are pure. Burt's Bees and a less expensive and it is mostly a natural line of products. Anyway, normalizing your skin may help with exposure to moist and heat every night.

I stick my index finger under the mask and scratch my nose while the pressure is on. I also use this gadget: Panasonic Vortex Nose & Facial Hair Trimmer, Model ER-GN30-K 1

Re: My Nose Itches
A suggestion I read here a while ago (which I use, and it works most of the time), is to rub your whole face briskly, specially everywhere your mask covers, right before putting on your mask.
Good luck!

Re: My Nose Itches
So does mine but not as much, any more. I don't use the humidifier at all, not even in the winter, and that seemed to take care of the problem.
It's annoying, isn't it?
Hope you find some relief!

You don't say what mask you are using, but that's a starting place: If you are NOT a mouth breather or if you are willing to wear a chin strap or consider mouth taping, a nasal pillows mask may be easier to tolerate since it minimizes how much of your facial skin is actually covered by the mask and thus cannot be easily scratched.
You also don't say what kind of allergies you have. Are they skin allergies and irritations? Or are you talking about nasal allergies like hay fever? It makes a difference.
If your allergies are nasal allergies, working on eliminating as much congestion as possible on a daily basis will likely make a difference. With CPAP it seems like I've got to have a zero-tolerance to congestion caused by my seasonal allergies, whereas before CPAP I was able to be pretty tolerant of minor to moderate levels of congestion before needing to do something.
If your allergies are skin-based, you'll need to look at your whole skin-care routine and consider mask liners of some sort to isolate your delicate, sensitive skin from the parts of the mask that are irritating your face.
Best of luck

Re: My Nose Itches
I hated my nose masks for this reason and several others. If you haven't tried nasal pillows I would recommend giving them a try. I would never go back to a nose mask after having switched.
Re: My Nose Itches
Just a few days ago I switched to trying a nasal pillows mask. I love that I can scratch all my face while wearing it. My only issue now is that I still have a very itchy nose..inside, outside..doesn't matter where, my nose is constantly itchy. I have seasonal allergies, as well as dust etc.
So its not a skin issue, I don't have any rashes or breakouts happening.
I am now going to attempt to put a little bit of baby gum numbing gel on the inside of my nose. Maybe if I can get to a good sleep before I notice any "itches" I will keep it on longer.
Oh boy, this is a never ending battle!
And to think when I went back to see the doctor he told me to lose weight. I only have about 25 lbs to even lose.. Since that I have heard from numerous people my doctor is flat out wrong.
