Joining the group tonight...
Hello all,
I went for a sleep study back at the end of May and the follow up in early June. My CPAP (S9 Elite) was delivered today by the DME. I was able to sleep pretty much through the entire night during the titration study, so I am hopeful that things go well tonight. I have been reading a lot on here and I want to thank everyone for all of the information.
After reading a bit, I am wondering if the auto would have been a better choice. My pressure is 12, which feels strong as I was getting it setup today, so I am a little concerned it will keep me up...
Well wish me luck on my first night...

Good luck. I started out on 12 and it wasn't a bad pressure to get used to. I bet you'll do just fine. Just relax and remember, it's just air.

Welcome!
I dreamed my first night on CPAP. I woke up that morning and realized I couldn't remember the last time I dreamed. I'll admit it...I wept tears of joy at that!
We all wish you good sleep and happy dreams in your new adventure. We'll help you along in any way we can...

I'm glad you found this site before getting started. You have a head start on most people. The pressure will seem pretty strong to start, but soon will not be bad. I started with 8 and thought that was a hurricane -- now I'm at 11 and don't notice it at all. Don't be too hard on yourself if there is an adjustment period -- we all went through it. Best wishes on your successful treatment.

Re: Joining the group tonight...
Good luck tonight. Most DME's set a ramp feature to increase the pressure gradually. If you wake up and feel like it's blowing hard, you can turn it off and back on again to restart that. Look forward to hearing from you tomorrow.

I'm on 12. You will quickly get used to it. During the night, I would sometimes wonder if my machine is still running. I just felt for air at the exhaust holes. Good luck. Earl

My pressure is 17; I use the Flex setting of 3. DME had turned on the ramp, but that got turned off completely by the 3rd night as well. It kept me awake, I kept waiting for something to happen. So after a minute or so, I settle down and don't even notice the pressure.

I keep looking for the post that would say, "Yes. The auto would probably be a better choice in the long term" but did not see it.
You have the data recording. This is good especially in the beginning. Critical to figure out what is going on.
But it will not adjust automatically for when you don't need as much pressure and when you do need more. Things change, you change, the weather changes, seasons change and time changes. Your pressure needs change. As the night goes on, my pressure changes depending on what sleep cycle I am in and what I need from the minimum the maximum.
Yes. I recommend, if you can, get an auto. Over time, properly set, it is more comfortable. It would be a better choice in the long term because it delivers the -minimum- pressure you need in order to stop the apnea.

Re: Joining the group tonight...
So I made it just under 4 hours last night before being not being able to get the mask to sit comfortably. I am a little annoyed I couldn't push through, but I have tonight to try again.
I did pull my data card out and did a report (couldn't get detailed, only summary for some reason) and was pretty amazed. My AHI went from 54 in the sleep study to 1.8 last night. I don't know if the data was skewed because of it only being 4 hours, but seems like a good start.
I think I may need to go to the "small" nasal pillows from the FX, so I will try those tonight.
Any other tips or things I should be doing/trying?
As a side note, my wife woke up this morning not having slept well because "I wasn't making noise and was concerned"

That's a great start. Please go to the user control panel and list your equipment in TEXT so it will show in your signature block.
Download your data again.
SELECT "ALL" and check the little box under that for detailed data sessions.
Then select overwrite when it says you already have data for that time period.
Here is a great tutorial for ResScan that will make it much easier to use.

Re: Joining the group tonight...
gmsmith I'm a smallish gal and use size large pillows.
No, I don't have a "big nose". I can't imagine a guy using small pillows but I may be wrong.
Your not trying to push them up there are you?
P.S. I hate to answer any posts, because I'm usually wrong LOL I just thought maybe this time I'm right...

I am sure it is just a matter of getting use to the mask. I just tried fitting the small pillows...think I will stick with medium. Let's aim for more hours tonight
