Smell good soap

Post by quietmorning » Sun Jun 12, 2011 4:36 am

I like and trust Ivory Dishwashing Liquid - and this is what I wash my CPAP gear in.

But.

The nasal pillow absorbs the 'clean soap' smell. . .so much so that it's quite intense the first and second times I use it during the week. The smell is no longer a 'clean soap' smell but a hideous-up-the-nose-so-can't-get-away-from-it smell.

For those of you that have found mild soaps that smell like something my nose wants to live in - could you please list what you use?

Thanks!

I use Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Liquid Soap which is a castile soap. It has an intense scent so I wash the mask in the morning and let it vent during the day. It is a very mild and pleasant scent by nighttime.

I have been using Johnsons unscented baby shampoo for over a year. Just bought bottle number two, the first one lasted a year....how cheap can you get

I am loving Mrs. Meyers Clean Day hand soap - lavender scented. It leaves just a very mild lavender scent. The cleaning instructions for masks say to use a "detergent" instead of a "soap". I have briefly looked at products and haven't found anything called a detergent that I would be willing to use. I don't know for sure, but I think that the detergent would remove more residue on the mask. Unless I hear of something better, I am sticking with Mrs. Meyers.

Dishwasher with extra rinse cycle. My normal dishwashing powder doesn't seem to leave an annoying smell. I've seen unscented "hypoalergenic" clotheswashing detergents, but I'm not sure I've such powders for dishwashing.

You might get some relief simply using really hot tap water in the sink after the ivory. I crank my hot water heater all the way up and using simply hot water cleans a lot of things pretty well on its on. Setting the water that hot can be dangerous for children, the elderly, or stupid adults.

Maybe you could use unscented Ivory bar soap. Lather it up, clean your hands really well, then lather your hands really well and work on the pillows with that.

Dr. Bronner's magic soap; try the liquid peppermint soap. Not too strong, not "soapy" smelling.

Ditto. I love this stuff. It cleans well, and the scent is heavenly.

FYI, Dr. Bronner's also makes a Lavender-scented liquid soap. (I bought that one, too, but I really love the peppermint.)

I use either unscented Johnsons Baby Shampoo or unscented Seventh Generation dish detergent, depending on which bottle is closest to the sink. Neither leaves a soapy smell.

Ivory "Pur" dish soap. No scents. Hypo-allergic. You might have to look for it. Publix carries it if you are near one.

They also make unscented versions - very handy for this kind of situation, I'd think.

Though I also use baby shampoo, I found that if I rinse the mask at the lavatory sink, I may have a little after-scent. I now rise the mask under the bathtub faucet (in Texas we use the word... spigot). The bathtub faucet offers more water and a higher pressure. Try it... since I started doing that, I get no more scents.

I use Dawn Direct Foam dish soap (original scent). It HAS a scent, but for me, it's fresh and clean so it doesn't bother me.
