Cpap and Naps

Post by Sheriff Buford » Thu Jun 02, 2011 6:40 am

After reading "Madalot's" thread on the setup she has for naps. I couldn't help but think.... do you folks use cpap during naps? I also have "my chair" which is a recliner. I never know when a nap attack will occur. I may dose for 20-30 minutes. I don't don the cpap for the nap attack. I know I can have sleep apnea issues during the naps, but if I get up, go to bed... don the equipment, the nap attack is no longer there and I'm not in the mood.

So.... do you folks use cpap during naps???

I don't, because I usually have nap attacks like you. If I lay down for a nap I use the machine

No naps. They always make me feel horrid when I wake up, like I am in a stupor and fuzzy, stuck in the sleep cycle.

You been sneaking stuff out of the evidence locker, Sheriff?

If you have an older, dumber model CPAP machine, parking it near the nap location would be a good idea. Or get a cheap backup machine off of craigslist. It's always good to have a backup in case of failure of your main machine. Using the backup machine occasionally also lets you know it's still working.

I almost always nap with the CPAP on, but I'm sleeping nights in my recliner at my "napstation" anyway.

He may be. Sheriff, I saw you napping in your patrol car off Highway 59 the other day. I flew right past, and you never even noticed! You'll never catch me. Keep taking those naps!

I don't take naps - same reason as Blackspinner. I feel worse after a short nap, and don't recover until a full-night's sleep. Although I do sometimes doze off while reading or watching tv, but just for a few seconds - that's my signal it's time for bed.

Cheers,
xena

Daytime naps are rare for me now that I have my treatment under control. If I mess up and have too much dinner I get sleepy but I try to stay awake until bedtime. If I doze I go on to bed.

'Feasting' on a donut, Sheriff? You know what they say about "the munchies". I think archangle may be onto something here.

For those that don't follow my saga....

I HATE needing naps during the day, but my situation has gotten bad enough that I have no choice. Frequently, unless I keep moving around (which is hard for me because of my disease), I WILL fall asleep. I have a SERIOUS aversion to getting into bed during the day. It's a part of my "coping" mechanism regarding my disease. Once I'm up and out of bed, I like to stay out of bed until bedtime.

But that posed a problem for me with needing to sleep during the day, thus I was falling asleep in my recliner.

My RT and doctor were NOT happy that I was sleeping without my ventilator, but we couldn't figure out an easy way to resolve this without my getting into bed.

Thus, my hubby came up with the rolling cart -- so now when I feel the need to sleep during the day, I CAN safely nap in my recliner and not worry about the consequences of sleeping without my respiratory support.

I do occassionally take a nap. No I do not use my CPAP when I do. However, I will be using my CPAP for naps in the future.

My backup /travel machine is parked close to the sofa in my sewing broom , it's my favorite nap spot, don't take naps often anymore, but if I happen to overindulge I'm all set up and I won't have to worry about the Sherrif

I never sleep without la machine. My advice: Buy a backup machine to keep by the recliner for naps, or get yourself a cart like Maddie's and move your machine to the recliner during the day.

I can't remember the last time I needed a nap ( ), but I always used the machine when I did.

XPAP: Don't sleep without it.

I nap twice a day in my bed for no more than an hour at time and don't use the CPAP. If I get an event which wakes me up then it's ok to stop napping. Overall, napping with CPAP ON adds lots of events artifacts which screw up the data on my ResScan graphs.

But I may use my other machine S9 Elite flow generator, only, for naps, as archangle suggested above.

I do use CPAP when I nap. My naps usually last at least an hour. I rarely sleep anywhere except my bed.
