M Series Respironics

Post by Griff » Sat Jan 07, 2006 2:44 am

Does anyone have the skinny on when the new Respironics M series machines will be out? Looks like I'll have to purchase an APAP out of pocket due to my doctor's unwillingness to change my script from a CPAP, and I would prefer to purchase the latest and greatest (yes, that would be subjective). How about any info on specs, new software features and interface options (computer connection) that might be included on the new machine? I've seen pictures of them online, but that's pretty much it. I'm not normally an "early adopter" of anything, but in this case I'm willing to bend that rule for myself (unless of course it turns out to be a total dog). Any info at all would be greatly appreciated.

The current model has only been out about 2-3 years, bugs are pretty much all worked out of it by now. You should have seen the model before the current, they were like standing on their end.

While new, the current model Remstar Auto w/cflex is a pretty darn good machine and I like the compact footprint design it has having the humidifier directly under the machine like the 420's vs this new side-by-side design of the M series which doesn't excite me any.

My opinion this new design is kinda stupid continuing on with the SmartCard, that just adds a lot of expense for everyone concerned, doctors patients everyone. They should have incorporated a more universal Secure Digital card interface instead those cards can be found anywhere and are getting cheaper everyday. But I guess they needed the clock chip and cpu from the SmartCard.

The problem getting these machines too small and light is they don't stay on the night stand, a light tug and it's off on the floor accidentally with a humidifier attached and the machine is pretty much ruined.

I was told in November that this machine would be introduced on a limited basis in December (don't know if that happened), with a full roll-out in January.

Going just by the rotating picture on the Respironics website, it's hard to tell if the cover concealing the humidifier is totally removable or not. I would hope the humidifier is shown covered for travel protection, and that the cover can be completely removed at home. I like to see the water level inside a clear water chamber. Wish they had included a picture of the humidifier uncovered.

Griff, since you want an autopap, you might have an even longer wait after the M series does hit the market. If Respironics does like ResMed did, they'll introduce just a straight cpap first, followed some months later by an autopap version. But, who knows? Maybe Respironics will come out with both a cpap and an autopap at the same time in the "M" series.

I'm kinda' fond of "tried and true." There's a great little workhorse that's been in a small package for years - the PB 420E.

Amen! I wake up every morning and say "thank-you" to my 420E.

Yeah, but what a great thing for travel. I'm sitting at O'Hare now, off for a week in Europe, and I'm stuck with an additional, sizeable bag to lug on trains, etc. due to the size of my REMstar machine. Wish I had the new one right now.

JPZ,

I sent you a PM a while back that is still sitting in my outbox... meaning you have not checked your inbox lately.

That's funny...... I can no longer find a web page for the M series, and a search for it on the Respironics website turns up nothing. Wonder if it's been cancelled?
