Pulse Ox...which one, where?

Post by jrcmlc » Mon May 16, 2011 3:40 pm

I have a RX for a pulse ox and my goal is to find the best one I can get and still have the insurance pay for it. I assume this is like the Cpap in that you can take the cheap, crappy one, or get the good one, you just have to know what to ask for.

So...what do I ask for? I want to be able to record overnight or use it instantly, and hopefully have an alarm on it if the saturation drops below a certain point.

Thanks in advance.

make sure you get a recording one if you're intending to wear it all night.

I got a CMS-50D plus for $84 plus shipping. (Be sure to get the "plus" model, without the plus, there's no data collection.) It's adequate and the price is hard to beat. The software is a bit of a pain, but a lot of medical software, even the expensive stuff, is a PITA.

I wear it while connected to the computer with the USB cord. This way, it doesn't run the battery down. You can also use it standalone without the cable, but it's a little more cumbersome to work the data collection that way.

I use it all night long clipped on my thumb with no problems. There are some wrist units that are less cumbersome to wear.

For that price I wouldn't even bother with the insurance. I had previously seen some that were very high $...although I'm fine with whatever so long as it's easy to use and works very well, and is durable.

A number of people here are pleased with Pulseoxstore, owned by a forum member. Particularly if something isn't right or there's trouble with the software, he's diligent about after-sales support.

I've had a d+, which uses alkalines and an E, which recharges while it's connected to your USB port; the rechargeable battery in the E is much more convenient if you can spring for it IMO.

I am using a Contec CMS 50F - really like it. Downloads via usb, is a wrist model, very comfortable and works great. I happen to have 2 and don't need the second one. It has never been used - non smoking home. PM me if interested.

I like the D+ vs the rechargeable battery models because rechargeable batteries eventually quit working, especially if you don't charge them for a while. You can change the batteries in the D+, and even use rechargeable NiMH batteries. If you use the USB cable while recording pulseox, you don't even run the batteries down.
