Swift FX help

Post by Erkman » Sat May 14, 2011 12:09 pm

New to cpap, just switched from a nose/mask cover to this one, works much better other than one problem. At around 4am in the morning, tmy nose hurts, it is not very tight, but wakes me up. Got up this morning, took it off for a few minutes then put back on and got a few more hours sleep till it irritated me more. Using the medium size which seems to be correct. Any tips?

Thanks!

Go to WalMart and to the baby department. Look for the bottles and nipples and stuff. Look for Lansinoh nipple cream. Nursing mothers use it to help prevent nipple soreness from babies nursing. Apply just a little to nostril area before putting mask on and even use some during the day.

Lanolin based. Some pharmacies have a store brand. One tube lasts a long time.

With time the nostril area is less tender. Also consider trial with different size pillow. Sometimes if not quite right size excess movement rubs the skin causing irritation. Also consider minor loosing of the top strap, maybe just one notch.

Also consider this little product. I use it, not for discomfort so much because I am long past initial tenderness. It is just very nice to have this against the nostril area. I originally got it to help with condensation in the pillow from my own breath but decided I liked it so much will use it all the time. Very soft and comfortable against the skin.

Hi,
I've had my Swift FX for 2 weeks. Is my first mask and I love it. The first couple of nights I got a little irritation around my nares (nostril openings). Bought the Lansinoh. Works great. I also found for some reason that wearing the headgear tighter appears to keep the pillows from shifting (?) and it feels fine all night and the next morning. My FX is the model 'for her' and I use the cheek strap covers that came with it. Very happy.

Good luck with it!

The reason I suggested the Lanisoh was not for the potential sealing properties. It was for the healing properties for tender tissues. I did breast feed and those nipples do get very sore. So that is also why I suggested using the Lanisoh during the day also, not just at night. I suppose any moisturizer would work. I know for a fact that Lanisoh works on tender tissues. I did try Lanisoh as a sealing agent. To be honest didn't seem to make any difference as a sealing agent for me. I have zero leaks or near zero leaks and I don't use anything on my nostrils and haven't for well over a year.

It lasts forever, only a very small amount is needed. I suppose a large amount would make a mess, I never used but a very small amount so never a gloppy mess.

Again another personal choice thing with CPAP. There are a lot of them..

Thank you for the info all, the Lanisoh would not be for sealing, have no problem there, just for the sore nose issue.

Try "Ayr Saline Nasal Gel with Soothing Aloe" cheap and last a long time I put a little right on the pillows and never have a problem. I also believe it helps with seal.
