Finally Got My Study Results
Finally Got My Study Results
I had to wait a bit to get them from the initial study ... but thats partly my fault ... and i don't have a proper doctor until next week .... but anyways ... I hope someone can "translate" some of this for me ...
It says I have very severe obstructive sleep apnea (AHI 84, RDI 85, nadir of SpO2 88%) ... but the pressure setting they said to use is still low at 5 - 6 cmH2O ... and they had me use a medium size mask. I plan to visit my DME on Monday and ask about that cuz I am using a small one now ... not sure if it has a factor in the leaks etc I am having with the small FFM vs a medium one ... anyways ...

Re: Finally Got My Study Results
Just a quick reply as I am really tired and need to go to bed, but you generally have hypopnea syndrome more than apnea, but regardless, it is treated the same way. Your pressure is not related to the 'severity' of your condition. A person can have mild OSA and require a high pressure while a person with severe OSA only needs a low pressure to open the airway. It is a very subjective Rx based on your physical throat architecture.
I also had predominately hypopneas although mine were much less than yours and my Dx was low moderate OSAHS. My pressure is 8 but I use my auto set at 7-10 and I rarely hit a pressure of 8. Your pressure is quite low, and many on this forum will say it is too low. Some folks, though, only need a 5 or 6 to get what they need. If your data shows you are still not getting proper therapy, you can always increase your pressure in small increments until you are getting better results.
Your O2 was good pre and better post so your oxygen is fine. Glad you were able to reach REM in the post as that is the restorative sleep stage.
Best of luck.... keep letting us know how you are doing. If you have problems, need advice.... just ask. I am sure many others will be along with their analysis of your study results. Sweet dreams!!

Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.
Re: Finally Got My Study Results
Looks to me like you are dialed in pretty well. The numbers have mostly improved quite a lot with the therapy. As to the mask. I have a big head and they gave me a small mask. I thought in my first two months it was a bit stiffling so I asked if I could have a large mask. Sure it felt more spacious, but it leaked like crazy every time I move just a bit. I just could not seem to find a tension that kept it sealed. So, now I am quite happy with my nice loose small mask. You may have the same experience. Just one thing. I don't know which mask you have but the ones with the bridge that rests on your forehead will keep the pressure off the bridge of your nose. So, if you don't have that then consider trying one.

Re: Finally Got My Study Results
I have noticed more night being repeatedly woken up with a coughing fit to one degree or another .... and I am not sure what is triggering this.
Is there a chance its my pressure? The mask? or humidifier tank issues?
I am trying to be good and use the FFM for the rest of the week .... but when I check the stats it appears to be some big leak times .... which I can match with the feeling near my eyes .... I might try tightening it or something .... I already tried loosening with no change ..... but again, it is not every night .... so I am still at a loss ....
** and thanks gvz on avatar comment ... art is my "therapy"

Re: Finally Got My Study Results
If you are having large leaks, you throat may be drying out causing you to have a cough. That happens to me if I forget to turn my humidifier on.

Re: Finally Got My Study Results
Your AHI post of 9.3 is quite high.
Can you scan and post your titration table?

Re: Finally Got My Study Results
On a plus side .. I think I figured out the "leak" issue ...
I think it is a cold air from the exhalation vent (or whatever it is called) .. not so much leaks .... so after seeing my DME (who said the numbers from my data were great .... ) I popped over to the Dollar Store and bought me a cheap eye mask ... seems to be working good too so far .....
Now I just need to fix the condensation in my mask or whatever THAT is ....
