Hey all, I went to the RT today and she has switched me over from the Auto CPAP to and Auto BiPAP machine. She thinks it will be better for me. My readings from the data card were positive however, so the machine is definately doing me some good. I asked her about this business of feeling worse than before when I get up and she said it was likely REM rebound. Has anyone else heard of this or experienced this. Went to the doc today and he said the chest pain is likely due to gastric issues and so I will be scheduled for a gastroscope. Guess I gotta fix things one step at a time. The RT was pleased at how long I used the machine each night and my apnea episodes have gone way way down. It seems my required pressure is only 11 so this all sounds positive, just gotta keep at it.

Re: REM Rebound
Is it muscle soreness in the chest you are feeling or something else? The chest muscles often get sore when starting on cpap and will strengthen in time with use.

I have no doubt, how I sleep affects every waking moment.
I am making progress-NOW I remember that I can't remember

If this isn’t rocket science why are there so many spaceshots?

Re: REM Rebound
I haven't heard that term before, but I googled it and this Wikipedia page seems spot on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REM_rebound.
The first few days after I got back onto CPAP after a long absence (bad me), I felt very similar.

Additional Comments: Pressure is 11-14. Old CPAP was a Resmed S6 Lightweight. Also have Profile lite mask. ResScan is actually version 3.14. Now I use Sleepyhead. |
Re: REM Rebound
Hard to say Gumby. I have an autoimmune issue that often causes inflamation in the chest wall, plueri and paracardial sack anyway. Doc thinks it's gastric, where I also have issues anyway so it's await and see scenario I am afraid. He assured me it is not heart or lung related.
