What AHI is considered too high?

Post by jmcsmomma » Mon May 02, 2011 5:18 pm

We only have the autoset for one more night, and I can't make heads nor tails of the data. What is too high?

In general terms, an AHI over 5.0 is "too high." Under 5.0 is normal for everyone (and considered effective treatment for anyone on xPAP therapy).

What is the data?
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy. ;))

PR S1 ASV 950, DreamWear mask, F&P 150 humidifier, O2 @ 2L.

5.0 seems to be the clinical magic number. But many of the forum users find they feel best if the AHI is under 2 or 3.

What kind of data do you have? I'm guessing members here could help you interpret it.

I'll have to dig up husbands charts.

Do dig up those charts and post. You will get feedback.

In addition to the S9 AutoSet's AHI numbers, you also want to know what the pressure numbers look like: They represent the 95% pressure level and this is often a good approximation for what the appropriate (fixed) pressure level should be. If it varies a lot from night to night, hubby may do better on an APAP.
