Nasal pillow size (Swift LT for her)

Post by needzzzzs » Sun May 01, 2011 12:12 pm

I started out with small nasal pillows for my Swift LT for her. Wasn't happy with my AHIs (anywhere from 5-8) so tried medium pillows. They work better (in general), because they allow less leaking, but seem to be getting inside my nostrils and causing sore spots, to the point that I took a nap without the mask yesterday afternoon because it was too uncomfortable. Last night I switched back to a small pillow, which felt better, but then the AHI went up again (to 5, from 1.2 the previous night with the medium pillow, the lowest it's EVER been for me).

Do I need a large pillow, maybe?

What are your thoughts on this, please?

Thanks!

Debbie

I use the medium pillows and just the tips should be entering your nostrils...the wider part should be outside the nostril. I've used Lansinoh pure lanolin on my nares every single night since I started.... per the advice of the good folks on this forum. I've NEVER had any soreness or irritation. You can purchase this product on the baby aisle of any pharmacy or store that has baby items. It is usually in the nursing area as this product is usually used by nursing moms to protect their nipples. Do not use vaseline as it is a petroleum product and will harm the pillows. Some folks use KY or Ayr gel, but I've only used the Lansinoh and it works great. The other reason I like it is that is has a slightly tacky consistency which helps you get a good pillow seal. It will run you about $9 for a tube that will last, easily, a year or longer. You only use a tiny bit per nostril. I am now in my 8th month and still have half a tube left.....
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

I have some Lansinoh, will give that a try. Thanks, Emilia. Do you just rub the Lansinoh around the edges of your nares?

I take a dab and run is around the edge of the nostril opening and a bit inside as well... and, of course, just under the nose going across both nostrils. A little dab will do it!
