Average AHI is 5.6

Post by don56 » Sat Apr 30, 2011 2:53 pm

My average AHI for the last year is 5.6. My average AI is 1.4 and HI is 4.2. I read a lot on this site and it seems to be on the high side.
My Pressure is 10 and EPR is on 2. I've tweaked the settings a little but with no consistent results. I appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,
Don

The consensus on the board seems to be that Resmed S8's tend to overstate HI because of the algorithm that Resmed has programmed into the unit.. The suggestion that has been made is to cut the HI number in half. If this was the case, your average would be 3.5. When I use my S8, I have found the same thing.

It has been discovered that the S8 machines tend to score HI events higher than what they actually are. ResMed revised the algorithm with the S9. I have read where people take the HI reported number and divide it by 2 to get a more realistic number.

Edit: LSAT beat me to it.

Are the S8s reliable on AI?
Thanks.

Thanks for the feedback.
3.5 sounds better than 5.6
Hopefully I can buy a new machine in the near future.

Yes, they sure seemed to be. Back before the S9 series came out a lot of people had quite low AI numbers but seemingly inflated HI numbers. If I had an S8 I might wonder a bit about and HI of 5 but I would sit up and take real notice if AI was pushing 5. I don't think it missed scoring of Apneas, only that it scored the Hyponeas a little aggressive.
