When will new machines come out.

Post by purple » Tue Apr 26, 2011 7:13 pm

Of course meaning quality, data recording machines. I am pretty sure I will soon get a machine. I would hate to buy-like- and S9 and in two weeks an S10 comes out. Any new Respironics machines on the immediate horizon?

If I buy it without insurance, I am strongly looking at "the IntelliPAP AutoAdjust Travel CPAP Machine with SmartFlex." I see a post which implies that I can not use the settings I have been using, a straight 10, as the machine insists of helping me by cutting off for me to exhale. Cutting off while I exhale is not a desired feature for me. I suspect I do not always breathe in even measures, which messes up the timing of cut off. Looks like the S9 also insists on helping me exhale. Forcing any setting on me seems -- odd.

I am waiting on recommendation from doc, which will surely be for a quality data recording machine with some type of options I do not need now but might need in the future. Then the DME will evaluate my machine, and also bring some exact dollar numbers for different machines and options.

I am not keen on buying a used machine. I can think of so many ways that could go wrong, and I might lose whatever money I paid for it.

Trust me, when the new model comes out, you should get the previous model if at all possible. You don't want to be the guinea pig who is helping them debug their new model of machine. Let it be out for a year or so and get the bugs and tricks found.

You don't have to use the exhale relief feature on Resmed S9(EPR) or Aflex(Respironics PR System). Many people turn it off.

The Intellipap can be run in either straight cpap or auto and the Flex can turned off, if you so desire.

As Dori said, you can turn that off. But if you wanted to experiment with it, timing won't be a problem with the S9 cpap and apap machines, because EPR isn't timed. It simply responds to whatever you are doing. The machine will drop the pressure when it senses that you are exhaling, and simply wait for you to inhale before it brings the pressure back up. Even if you have an obstructive apnea, the S9 will stay at the lower pressure until you inhale. Thus you might need a higher minimum pressure with EPR on, but the machine will never get in the way of your breathing pattern.

My guess is you were reading about Resmed's vpap model, or perhaps some comments about Philips' aflex/cflex got stirred into a discussion about EPR.

Same with the Intellipap. TIming has nothing to do with it. Both machines sense when you are finished exhaling and they respond quicker than you can imagine.
