Oracle mask is FFM or Nasal?
Oracle mask is FFM or Nasal?
Did a quick search but didn't pull up a thread with the info - or I missed it. Does the Oracle mask count as a Full Face or Nasal when it comes to the CPAP machine setting?
Need to give my nose bridge a rest, and I still can't the the hybrid to stop leaking (read Rooster's posts - not giving up yet, but not there yet either). So, Oracle arrives tomorrow =)

Re: Oracle mask is FFM or Nasal?
Sorry, I have no idea what setting to use on a machine for the Oracle. It's an oral mask, and I'm guessing it would fall under the FFM category, but don't quote me.TalonNYC wrote:Did a quick search but didn't pull up a thread with the info - or I missed it. Re: the Hybrid, have you tried the other fixes for it (and/or the Liberty) that are listed in rested gal's Lab Rat Trophy Awards thread? viewtopic.php?t=15104 The Hybrid and Liberty do take a bit more tweaking than most other masks, but I love mine.
Good luck!
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.
Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy.

Re: Oracle mask is FFM or Nasal?
I did an internet search and it is listed as neither a full face or a nasal....it's listed as an oral mask so I have no idea which setting you would choose. I know this is absolutely no help but that's all I could find. Here's the link;

Have you tried the Padacheek liner for the Hybrid? It really stopped the leaks and the marks on my face. The liner and the strap pads have made the Hybrid much more comfortable and flattened out the leak line considerably. Much better than taping and chin strap with nasal pillows IMHO.

Re: Oracle mask is FFM or Nasal?
My next steps (if the Oracle doesn't work) are to try the pads for the hybrid. I did try a couple of the lab rat methods, I must have been doing it wrong LOL.

Isn't there a setting for no mask or something like that when you don't know about the mask?TalonNYC wrote:Did a quick search but didn't pull up a thread with the info - or I missed it. Does the Oracle mask count as a Full Face or Nasal when it comes to the CPAP machine setting?
If you can drop in at your sleep doc's office and ask for a couple of then nose pinchers he uses when he measures lung capacity you'll find they are much more comfortable than the nose plugs that come with the Oracle mask.
Here is a pix of what you'll be asking for.

Using them has made life with the Oracle mask good.
One other thing to remember, the Oracle mask needs you to have your humidity set higher than normal 'cause your mouth can't supply as much liquid as you nasal passages can.

Re: Oracle mask is FFM or Nasal?
Thanks for the info, I will ask about the nose pincers, and have a pair of swimmers nose clips on the way until I can get them.

Re: Oracle mask is FFM or Nasal?
The Oracle is very difficult to use. When I had my nasal surgery and couldn't use CPAP, I convinced my ENT to let me use the Oracle which breaths through the mouth only. I got a loaner from my DME and tried it...I couldn't use it for more than 15 minutes at a time. Pinching my nose was difficult because of the surgery and I couldn't breath only through my mouth.

Re: Oracle mask is FFM or Nasal?
I keep mouth breathing when I sleep anyway, so for me it's kind of second nature. Plus, I used to use nose clips when I was a kid and went snorkeling. Wasn't exactly the most comfortable thing, but then again CPAP in general isn't LOL

Re: Oracle mask is FFM or Nasal?
I tried the lab rat method on the Hybrid mask liner too and it was a huge failure. I don't know what magic Karen at Pad A Cheek does with the liners, but the one I purchased from her just works. Mask doesn't leak around the chin area now and it's just so much more comfortable. All the tips I found on here about fitting the Hybrid correctly made a difference too.TalonNYC wrote:My next steps (if the Oracle doesn't work) are to try the pads for the hybrid. Hope you find a mask that is comfortable and leak-free.
Re: Oracle mask is FFM or Nasal?
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm really just using the Oracle until my nose heals up. The first mask I had (a nasal mask) ripped it up bad, and it's taking forever to heal because the FFM I use still touches there. Even with a mask pad - which is letting it heal slowly - it's taking a very long time. So, Oracle for now, then back to the FFM in a week or so to see if I can use that long-term.
after all, aroma therapy won't work if I can't breathe through my nose LOL
