MedicAlert bracelets?
MedicAlert bracelets?
Anyone use them? Do doc's recommend them for OSA and other sleep disorders?

I don't use one, but I keep a paper in my wallet (and my wallet in my pocket at all times) with all my doctors, diagnoses, and meds listed.

Yes. I have "Sleep Apnea" on mine, and both my machine and my pressures are on file with Medic Alert.TalonNYC wrote:Anyone use them? Do doc's recommend them for OSA and other sleep disorders?
Since I follow a special diet, I also have "food allergies" and what I can and cannot eat is on file with Medic Alert, also.

Re: MedicAlert bracelets?
I have tags (necklace). It lists my neuromuscular disease, my medications, my doctors AND my ventilator information. I figure if something happens to me and I can't tell them, they would need this information.

I use a Medical passport -- a waterproof Emergency medical USB tag -- it does contain info on it for my OSA -- along with all of my other health issues, docs, meds, etc..

Re: MedicAlert bracelets?
I wear one because of my heart situation and also because of taking Coumadin. They have very nice bracelets (all different metals) at Sticky Jewelry in Clearwater, Florida and they have a web site. Not associated with them but have received excellent products and service there.
Re: MedicAlert bracelets?
I just looked at this and I really like the sound of this. My situation changes a lot and my tags get outdated kind of fast. Plus, they're expensive.Tip10 wrote:I use a Medical passport -- a waterproof Emergency medical USB tag -- it does contain info on it for my OSA -- along with all of my other health issues, docs, meds, etc..

I think I'm going to order this.
Thank you!

Re: MedicAlert bracelets?
My brother got me mine (I've since ordered a couple for friends) -- he had numerous conversations with the developer/seller and had real good things to say about him (and his customer service).Madalot wrote:I just looked at this and I really like the sound of this. Owner wears one -- swims with it, showers with it, doesn't worry about it. Brother wears his 24x7 says same thing. Software interface is pretty easy and intuitive. Be careful on initial setup -- if you forget YOUR password into it you are pretty much hosed. You determine exactly what info you allowed to show on the screens.

Re: MedicAlert bracelets?
This is great for personal medical info, but I don't see info on the site about how many Emergency Departments have accepted the technology.

Re: MedicAlert bracelets?
I wear a MedicAlert bracelet mainly because I have artificial joints and need antibiotics should I be in an accident. I am on drugs for RA. They are listed on the wallet card. I added OSA to to the bracelet noting that I use cpap.

Re: MedicAlert bracelets?
Just ordered one because of trip to er yesterday because of copd flairup. Scairy trip not breathing very good at all. That was the fastest I've ever been seen to in er,2 mins I was on iv with oxygen in my nose. Luckily my wife was at home on her days off,she said since she has to work to order med alert.should be here in 2 or 3 days.
Wife accused me of being to hard headed along with another few or many choice words. So I did as told.Keeps peace in the house.
Also informed the medical staff about being on apap in case I was admitted so my wife could bring in my supplies and apap machine.

Re: MedicAlert bracelets?
I feel medical personal will watch my breathing but still an alert about level of sleep apnea is a good idea . I also need one for no MRI screws in foot and large magnet in back of eye socket , now that could be serious if MRI imagining was done. My husband and myself ordered from sticky jewelry good service

Re: MedicAlert bracelets?
I've been tempted because of anti-seizure meds, not for seizures but can cause life-threatening side-effects if they're abruptly stopped. So far, what I've depended on is having my cell phone on me at all times and having my boyfriend and my mother listed in fast-dial as "emergency contact #1" and "emergency contact #2" as first two numbers at top of list.
When I do get one it will be with MedicAlert. They have a 24x7 800# with an operator ready to give your information. They check the info you put on the forms before sending your tag/jewelry to you, and you can make changes to your info with them at any time for no fee. They have reasonable yearly fees. And, according to a friend who uses them, if you have Medicare, they will waive the yearly fee. Don't have first-hand proof of that though, so don't quote me on it. Also, I am not affiliated with them, but have heard really good things about them.
