400 m lights stay on?

Post by geojr » Thu Apr 07, 2011 11:06 am

Hi all,

Got a Remstar 400M at auction. Found out how to set pressure on here, used it for the first time last night.

Worked fine but... the lighted buttons, on off, ramp cflex all stay on all night. They do dim a bit, but never turn off.

Seems strange for a bed side device. I mean I am thinking if I wanted to, it would have been enough light to read.

Is there a setting that will turn these off? Is this normal behavior?

Thank you for any info,'

Don't think there is any way to turn the lights off or dimmer.
Some people just seem to notice the lights more. In the past those that were bothered by the lights just draped a towel or something over the lights to block them. You can also put the machine a bit lower and out of sight.

Lights never bothered me when I had it on a table level with the mattress. Now it is on a level below the top of the table and the lights are blocked by the table top. Did this to help with rain out. I guess I was never particularly sensitive to the lights.

Thank you for the reply. I was really just wondering if this was normal behavior for this model.

Now that I know it is, I can look into fixes.

Again thank you, and have a great day

Thank you for your request. I am sorry your friend is having trouble with these lights. Unfortunately there is no way to turn them off. Our new System 1 machines do not have these lights stay on all of the time.

Thank you for that. I actually did not even think of writing to them.

Still having a hard time thinking that they did this on purpose.

Anyway, again, thanx,

I agree that it is severely annoying and that you could quite possibly read by them. I have not found that they get any dimmer during the night. If you come up with a decent fix, I'd love to hear about it. I'm afraid to just drape a towel over the machine because it might cause it to overheat.

Small sticky to cover the lighted buttons??? M series machine users who didn't like the lights used to do that all the time.

I thought the PR S1 machines weren't lit up?

Doesn't have to be a towel, though many have done it. Just some little something over the lights. Hankie maybe?

Unfortunately, they are. The ramp and the humidifier level stay lit up and they're bright. I *think* the display turned off.

On my system one, I can turn off the ramp light and the humidifier level light. But the dang humidifier is on light cannot be turned off. And uncovered, it does just about light up my side of the bed enough to read by, although with getting some serious eyestrain. I used to use three layers of notecard paper taped together to block it (yes, it took three levels). I kept losing the notecard thingy. So I eventually taped over the light with some duct tape. Took three or four levels of duct tape to block that light too.

And yes, it is truly odd that not only did PR include lights that cannot be dimmed for a medical device to help people sleep, they also chose blue lights, which are particularly disturbing to the sleep cycles of people sensitive to lights.

I wonder (a lot) these days about whether or not the design engineers of these machines actually ever (a) talked to real patients who had real problems adjusting and (b) ever tried to sleep with one of these things on their own nose.

Okay, how do you turn off those lights?

Well.. I got nothing. If any one is thinking of taking it apart. Do not bother. The switches/lights are sealed in some kind of silicone. Taking machine apart does not give any easy way to disable that I saw.
Guess back to throwing something over it.
Still amazed this was made this way.
