What type of tape to use

Post by brsett » Thu Apr 07, 2011 12:19 pm

Hello,

I've just recently given up on the chin strap and switched to taping. Can anyone recommend tape types? I was using cloth medical tape. But it mixes overly strong adhesive with poor saliva toleration, so not really ideal.

Blue painters tape found at places like Lowe's in paint section. Get the "delicate" one that says it won't remove paint from whatever is painted. 2 inch width. It does stick well but not hard on skin and you can buy a large roll for what a few rolls of fancy people tape costs.

I had 3M #2080-EL (for "Edge Lock") tape recommended to me by a long-term taper. I'm still looking for 2" EL tape, so I'm using regular #2080. As a skin protectant I am using a thin layer of milk of magnesia. See my current thread "Blowfish Follies" for more than you want to know about taping.

Back when I did tape I had just painted some rooms in the house and had the blue tape laying around. It wasn't even the delicate kind. I am tight wad, so I used it. No skin problems but then I am not normally sensitive to stuff anyway.
I can see where some people are so I always suggest the delicate version to limit skin issues.

I am no longer taping but I found the painters tape to be really hard to peel off. What I found best was 3M microfoam tape. 2" width.
Holds very securely and very easy to take off. A little hard to find. If you want to try some I bought a whole box and have some rolls I can sell. PM me if you are interested.

I am no longer taping, but I did for a couple of years. I found the NexCare Gentle Paper Tape, 2" wide worked best for me.

You can get it at Walgreens: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/nexcar ... 54-product

Good luck,
Dennis

Just a "heads up" on the 3M #2080-EL delicate, blue, painter's tape. Bought a 2" roll in Lowe's (small town mind you) for $9.98 tonight. Could hardly believe it since it's not even plentiful on the Internet. Every time I saw a post about the stuff I hoped I would see "where" folks bought it. Hope this helps another.

That's what I use too. I've had no problems whatsoever. Haven't tried the blue stuff yet.

I alternate between 2 in Blue painters tape and 2 in 3M gentle paper tape. I find that the painters tape isn't as sticky and I blow it loose around the edges. sometimes and if I get it too high on my upper lip it interferes with my pillows, The 3M tape is much better it doesn't come loose from drool and because it is thinner and more flexible it doesn't interfere with the pillows. But I break out from it, if I wear it everyday
