Alsacienne is the French for 'the girl from Alsace' which I am.

Learning about CPAP seems to me to be an exploration of sleep for me, something I can dive into. Sometimes it feels like I'm bobbing on the waves when I wake up - like I've just surfaced from a long dive. It might sound weird, but sleep and swimming seem very simlar to me.

I'm thinking this thread should also include how/why people chose their avatar!

Mine is a caricature done for me by the guy who does GU Comics (http://gucomics.com). Apparently it's a dead ringer for me.

Mine is my nickname plus the last syllable of my (French) last name. I've used it everywhere I go on the Internet ever since 1995 when AOL wouldn't let your screen name be longer than 7 characters.

My name is Janice (not "Jan" as many people assume) and I knit, so my name was a logical choice. I first started using it on knitting forums.

My avatar is the Pali of Kauai, taken from a cruise ship. When I first started CPAP the noise and pressure changes with flex really bothered me, so I tried to imagine myself on a beach with a view like that.

Mine is my first name and my last initial. Creative, huh?

(OK, my birth certificate (and *I* have one...) says "Linwood". An old Southern name. But I've been "Link" since 4th grade, when I found out my grandfather--for whom I was named--went by "Link".

And my avatar is some guy who looks a LOT like me...

Funny you should say that... I always describe trying to wake up in the morning as being sucked down by the undertow... I wake up, start to think, "I have to get up" and before I act on that thought, I've been sucked back down into a dream. Some days I'm fighting the undertow for way too long. This morning I was thinking, "This is like quicksand..."

Sleeping Beauty falls into this deep, serene sleep...unlike any sleep I've ever known. I guess I could have called myself The Princess and the Pea, but that is kind of long.

Jordy.

Well was given my full name so I could be called Jordy. And I have always answered to Jordy. I use the screen name of jCoyote a lot, but a wanted to be a bit more personabale with this board. So I used the name I go by.

My pic is actually me shooting in Venice. My son (12) took this picture using a Lens Baby (if you're photographically inclined). He's my little apprentice, and quite a good little photographer himself.

My avatar is me in a steam punk costume - Lady explorer - at the local Sci Fi convention. For those who are into historical romance novels I called myself the steam punk version ofAmelia Peabody Emerson by Elizabeth Peters . I am missing the umbrella because I wasn't going to go into the costume parade at all by got strong armed into it by the judges and my daughter.

Well, I had just gotten back from spending a week with my sister when I found this forum. I love her so much and we had such a wonderful week together,I thought of "sister".
I don't get to see her very often,so now I think about her all the time when I'm on the forum.
