resmed error code HELP!!!

Post by icemanbryan » Sun Jan 03, 2010 10:53 am

Hi, I have a ResMed S8 Series II with Heated Humidifier.
I have a problem, last night when I was getting ready to put it on, I noticed an error code 1019.
I unplugged the CPAP and tried to reset it, nothing the code stays.
Does any member know what that means and or how to fix or reset it?
I do not have insurance now and have to pay cash for each Dr appointment.
I can send it in to be fixed. Just curious if it is a filter or????

Thanks in advanced

Bryan

From the S8 Elite II Clinicians Manual trouble shooting "chapter":

Display error message:
Exxxx (where xxxx defines an error)
Component failure. Return the S8 Elite II for servicing

You don't need a doctor. The S8 Elite II comes w/a 2 year warranty. Contact your local DME provider. If they give you any guff contact Resmed directly and let Resmed climb all over your provider's neck. They sold it, they are supposed to handle any warranty problems. Resmed is good for it, but some of these local DME providers will try to foist you off until the warranty runs out rather than handle the issue. Resmed insists that warranties and returns be handled via the local provider.

Thanks very much.
Where is the best fastest repair company.
I don't live in the same state where I did my sleep study anymore.
I now live in Southern California
Is there a good repair company here?
I assume mine is out of warranty
Thanks again

How long have you had your Elite II? If less than 2 years it is still under warranty. The S8 IIs came out in 2008 so it should still be under warranty.

Check the Resmed website for Resmed dealers in your current area. Since you bought your Resmed in another state and are no longer living in that state a Resmed dealer in your current area should handle the warranty work. They don't repair it, they send it to Resmed. But a dealer has to be the one to do so. Your other option is to call the various local DME providers to ask if they provide Resmed xPAPs. If they do they SHOULD handle your warranty work for you.

Haven't finished paying for machine yet (insurance company paid half evidently-but I need to pay $900 !!) so when I called the "Quality home Care" company
they said there is an issue with your balance. Didn't sound like they wanted to help

Error 1019 means the flow sensor is stuck at a low value. The most common reason for this is water from the humidifier has got back into the device. If this is the case, it won't be covered by the warranty.

Hello, this just happened to us while on vacation because the machine got knocked over. This is what worked for me. Take the humidifier off of the machine. Take a blow dryer and on low setting, lightly blow into the machine. When I plugged it back in the error message was gone. This will buy us time to get home and get it checked out by a professional. Good luck!

I do not have that machine. Bryan I also live in Southern Calif I just had a problem with my 420 G Puritan Bennett 6 years old way out of warranty. I visited two dealers both told me it was trash. I am handy and curious. I took it apart it was a 1.99 fuse that I soldered I got the part at Mar Vac in Costa Mesa. If you want me to look at it I would we
could meet at a Starbucks or Mar Vac there a great guy there Steve that is very technical if it stumps me maybe we can fix it If it sucked some water we can take the blower apart dry it and clean it mine turned out to be dusty anyway so cleaning it was good too. We can even Skype and work on it together my skype is Art.Levine call me.

The S8 line is old stuff. Very old stuff.
The original post was SEVEN years ago.
Any machine that old probably should be replaced, please believe you are worth the expense.
Insurance/Medicare should cover it.
New cpap machines are awesome!

While looking for information on a "system 1019" error, I saw your post suggesting replacing the machine because it is seven years old. Why would you say that? If the machine is working fine why replace it? These machines do not represent devices that are a dire hazard if they malfunction. Also, if their calibration drifts slightly with time, I cannot imagine that presenting a health hazard unless the person is experiencing apnea related symptoms. Contrary to what some (but not all) pulmonologists like to make you think, CPAP machines are not rocket science. Aside from the buttons there appears to be only one moving part in the S8, the air turbine, so it really should last for a very long time. Therefore, without you having any basis, I am at a loss why you would suggest to people, that might not be able to comfortably spend upwards of $1k, to just buy a new machine.

I have two bedside machines, the S8 purchased in 2009 and an S9 purchased in 2012. I use the S9 every night and it works just fine and I think it would be irresponsible to just trash it because it is now over 6 years since I bought it. The S8 worked perfectly until my brilliant girlfriend (with a doctorate) grossly overfilled the reservoir, flooded the internal fan assembly, and possibly trashed a machine that will approach $900 to replace.

Despite your assertion of the number of moving parts, the things that don’t appear to be moving also have a lifespan as well: solid state electronics don’t last forever and in particular, electrolytic capacitors often die over time and take out things depend on them, such as power regulation.

Not just time, but also power surges wear things out over time, given enough of them over time.

Nothing man-made lasts forever.
