First Month

Post by gingersue » Sun Mar 27, 2011 8:56 am

I am completing my first month and having some problems. I started with a nasal cannula and did fine on it sometimes, but then I realized that my mouth opens sometime after I go to sleep good and that would wake me up and I would ditch the equipment to go back to sleep. Went back to DME and got full mask, but don't like it. I was able to sleep most of the night, but it was hard to get comfortable, (I sleep on my stomach) and then I found that the headgear was rubbing against the back of my neck. It also leaves marks on my face and I tend to wake up and take off the gear early in the morning. I slept without either last night and I am sooooo sleepy this morning. Obviously, it makes a difference when I'm able to keep it on the majority of the night. I think I'll try the nasal cannula again and tape my mouth shut. I read quite a bit about that on this site. I see my doctor Tuesday for the first time since I started this journey. Reading these posts made me realize that I wasn't paying attention when I went before. I have no idea about reading my sd card, or even if I should, but it sounds like I need to know more. I just let them do the settings and I'm scared to change anything. I am somewhat intimidated by the equipment. Any suggestions?

Just added the equipment and updated my profile. Still new to all of this.

Your machine shown doesn't match up with your humidifier. The machine you have chosen is older discontinued model. I suspect you need to look in the menu for the PR System One machines, they will also have Remstar in their name but start with PR System One.

I am a newby too, only 3 mos into this thing, but i have tried several masks, pillows, full face masks, nasal mask. I could not stand the full face mask as it made my face sweat, i really wanted the oracle (the one u hold the thing in your mouth) to work as i did used to scuba dive but it was just never comfortable. Just spend another night with a nasal mask that leaked so i finally took it off. I must say that so far the nasal pillows have been the best. I am worried that i do mouth breath so i tried the blue tape over my mouth last night, this was OK but it was not a true test since i could not get the mask to seal. All the variables are a bit complex and i have been spending a great deal of time on this issue but the incentive is that i may finally sleep well at night again and be able to function a whole day w/out becomming exhausted at 3pm, causing me to eat to stay awake and working, causing me to gain 90 lbs etc. In any event my suggestion is - baby steps. Don't try to figure the whole thing out at once. Start at some point. Masks for example. Go on the web and to this site as u did and get all the info u can, decide what u want to try & try it. You may have to repeat this over and over again for some time. Take another issue - software or changing the settings. Same thing, read as much about it as you can, take notes, sit down with your unit and give it a try.

JUst my advice and it is a bit frustrating when u think u r so close to a good nights sleep but it keeps slipping out of your reach. Hang in there!
