Hey guys; a couple questions as I close out day 6 in the new world of CPAP. 1) suggestions on best method/products to clean hose and humidifier basin. I have heard baby shampoo, ivory dish washing detergent (scent free) or any scent free liquid dish washing detergent, 2) When I rinse my Resmed thin-style hose in the early morning and hang it over the shower rod, it still has lots of water inside the tube at 11:00pm later that day. Are all hoses like this? 3) Mask - I have a Mirage Quattro - should I just wipe off the other where it touches my face daily and then take the straps off one a week and wash the entire mask?
Thanks...Eddie

Re: CPAP cleaning question from a newbie
Morning Eddie and welcome
I do not wash my hose every day....try once every couple of months I wash my face mask in baby shampoo every day and wash the head gear once a week. I've been at this almost a year...I started out washing everything every day even the hose. I quit washing the hose every day when I gouged a nice big hole in the wall from swinging it around trying to dry it out .
When I travel I use unscented baby wipes to clean off my mask every morning until I can get back home and give everything a good going over.
Good luck and again WELCOME
Cheers
Nan

Re: CPAP cleaning question from a newbie
When I wash my hose (about once a week or so....), I hang it over a hook all day, then some time before bed, I connect it to the machine and run it for a few minutes with the heat turned up and humidity off - this seems to dry it out nicely. If my nasal pillows are still a bit wet, I'll add them too.

Re: CPAP cleaning question from a newbie
Regarding the wet hose. It does seem to take an awful long time to dry. I suppose it is because air just doesn't get up inside there much. I don't wash mine often but even with just rain out it can take a long time to dry. I was going to suggest just having an extra hose to swap out but I see you have one of those fancy hoses and I know they are pricey. Still might not be a bad idea to have an extra on hand just in case it gets damaged beyond repair.
I really don't think there is a need to rinse the long hose every day. I used to do mine every week but as time went by, less and less often. Now I just hang it up to dry if there is moisture in it from rain out. Cleaning/washing rituals are varied and entirely up to your own preferences. Some of us are very religious about it and some of us are rather lax. Especially when it comes to the long hose which doesn't come in contact with the face.
