S9 settings and reports
Hi,
Thanks to the guys and gals in this forum, I've been fiddling around with the extended menu and setup functions on my S9 Elite CPAP. On the settings menu, the pressure is set at 8.4 cmH2O but in the sleep report, the pressure stated is 9.2 cmH2O.
Are they one and the same thing? I'm confused....can someone help?

Tiger I would call my sleep doc and my DME to make sure they are working off the same page.

I'm not good with math, but there are probably quite a few reasons you're seeing two different pressure numbers. If you've been changing the therapy pressure setting, and/or if you've been using EPR (and possibly changing the EPR level) maybe that could affect the reported pressure number.
Even if you don't figure out "why", I wouldn't worry about seeing a difference of less than 1 full cm. It probably doesn't have any impact on your therapy. It would not make me thing there was anything wrong with the machine.

Thanks rested gal.....my EPR is set to "patient"...dunno what this means but it used to be set to "3".
These new settings haven't affected my AHI...presently my AHI is around 4.5. Last nite it read 2.7, the lowest by far.

Sleep report? Are you talking about the results of your titration sleep study? If so, then a call to the sleep doctor's office is definitely in order since that might well indicate that somehow the machine's pressure has been set incorrectly.
Or are you talking about a report from ResScan? Or the Sleep Quality report on the S9's LCD? I didn't think the Elite has a pressure number shown since the pressure is supposed to be fixed. If ResScan or the Sleep Quality report is showing a different pressure than the pressure setting in the clinical menu, I think a trip to the DME maybe in order since there's an outside chance that the machine is not calibrated correctly I suppose. I can't think of any other reason the pressure setting would not be the pressure shown on a ResScan report.
If EPR is set to "patient" in the clinical menu, that mean YOU the patient can CHANGE the EPR setting via the PATIENT setup menu. It's been a long time since I had an S9 in my possession, so I don't remember how to get to the patient setup menu. And while using EPR does change pressure (temporarily) on exhale, the ResScan pressure graph and summary data concerning pressure does NOT reflect this fact. The pressure graph should be a horizontal line right at the prescribed pressure in the ResScan report if you are using an Elite or if you are using an AutoSet running in CPAP mode.

I think when you see the word "Patient" (with a reference to "EPR") you might be looking at a different place in the LCD info than what you would see if you went to the exact place in the LCD info that actually shows the EPR level.sleeptiger wrote:but it used to be set to "3".

I 've rechecked the readings on my S9 Elite LCD screen, here are the readings:
Sleep quality
Pressure - 9.2cm H2O
Settings
EPR - Patient
Pressure - 8.4 cmH2O
EPR was changed by me from "3" to "Patient"....the options are Off, 1, 2, 3 or patient. What do I need to do under "patient" mode?

If you had an S8 instead of an S9 you could see what your Leak rate is instead of that asinine smiley face on the LCD. An Elite CAN provide higher than set pressure in an attempt to compensate for a high leak, as I remember it up to as much as 1 cm higher than the set pressure. But its been a while since I was privileged to use an S8 Elite.

I don't have an S9 machine, but I do have the Provider manual for the S9 Auto and S9 Elite. On page 4 under "EPR checklist" I found this:sleeptiger wrote: Settings

You can select an EPR Level of Patient (configurable by the patient), Off, 1, 2, or 3 cm H2O.
I take that to mean setting it to "Patient" means the user (you, in this case) can then select whatever level of EPR you want to use. If "Off, 1, 2, or 3" were chosen instead of the word "Patient", I guess that means the user (I hate the word "patient" ) would not be able to change the EPR setting. EPR would stay at whatever the person who set the machine up chose for EPR ... "Off, 1, 2, or 3" ... and the patient can't change it.
But when "Patient" is chosen, the user can change the EPR level when he/she wants to -- through the "Patient Setup" menu. You get to the Patient menu by going to "Settings" - same menu where you find "Mask" and "Mask fit"
In the Provider manual there's a section called "Setup menu."

Thanks Rested Gal.......after reading thru the S9 maual, I've resolved the problem of the "patient" settings but the discrepancy between the CPAP pressure set and the reported pressure shown in sleep quality on the LCD screen still remains.
Last nite I manually changed the CPAP pressure from 8.4 to 8.8. This morning when I viewed the sleep quality on the LCD, it read " pressure 9.2.....".
I'm not really fussed about it cos I'm getting good rest and sleep....but it'd be good to find out the reason for this difference.

I read here, but don't remember who said it,or what thread, but someone said: the difference is the cpap compensating for leaks.

Looked above but easily could have missed it:
If you have not already done so unplug the machine and then plug it back in and let it come up. The S9 is known sometimes to have, shall we say "brain farts" where its displays are not always showing you what is going on.
I've noted an number of occasional differences and they have all generally cleared up by power cycling.
Don't know if this is the issue in your case but it won't hurt.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions...I've tried everything including swiching to default settings and unplugging the machine but the S9 still states that the pressure is 9.2 despite being manually set to 8.4. So I then downloaded the SD card into my pc (using Resscan 3.12) and viewed the sleep report there. Resscan 3.12 shows the cpap pressure to be 8.4. There's no mention of a 9.2 anywhere in the report. I'm inclined to believe that the "brain fart" in my S9 is pretty permanent.
