I hate it. I lie awake until I get so angry I take the mask off and go to sleep.
It was horrible 15 years ago when I first tried it. New doctor said masks are
much better. But I still hate it.
Will be investigating surgery where a titanium screw is used to pull the tongue
forward.

I am sorry to hear that. Have you tried the new systems? Or, are you just judging from the fact you first tried a 15 year old machine? I recently began my CPAP treatment and find it rather easy to comply. It seems that surgery on your toungue with a screw would be worse?

I had to vote "marginal" because I'm still new enough that the real benefits are just beginning to be noticeable. I AM feeling better, but it is in very small increments--a little bit better every day. The improvements aren't noticeable on a day to day basis, but when I look back to when I started, I can see good improvement.

Right now it seems like the benefits are beginning to really kick in, and I expect some big improvements over the next few months. While I'm disappointed I wasn't one of those folks who notice an immediate difference, I'm happy that after 30+ years of being exhausted and feeling awful, I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel and this time I don't think it's a train!

I won't give it up and I will no longer even nap without my apap....its been frustrating, painful, awful, and miserable....but even now I notice that my days are at least 2 hours longer because I get up earlier and actually FEEL like doing something!

I voted "significant" but it's really somewhere in between significant and marginal. I do feel a bit better, I'm sleeping better and more calm at night. But still physically tired during the day and happy to nap any time. I don't think it's CPAP's fault--it's my lousy metabolism.

Thanks to all who are voting. I voted Great! I am only in my second week of treatment but so far, I am definitely feeling the changes. If it continues to improve, I may change my vote to amazing.

PS. I think this poll helps newbies see that there is an overwhelming majority of users who feel better. Like me!

I am one of the lucky ones for who XPAP worked wonders from the very first night.

I had no problems adjusting to the mask or the machine, and the first night I slept nine hours straight of peaceful restful sleep. I had thought I wasn't sleeping before because of a bad bladder or insomnia...no, I had apnea.

I feel bad for those who have difficulty. I didn't realize how fortunate I was until I came here and heard the stories and the statistics of how people respond to XPAP. I hope better and easier technologies are developed that people can use without such struggle.

Metta.

There really isn't an answer listed for me. I'm feeling the same or slightly worse at night since starting cpap 5 months ago. But, the mask/machine are not an issue. I "took" to cpap easily, as far as being able to tolerate the mask and pressure without any issues. I really don't mind "hooking up" each night. But, it has done nothing to address my symptoms. The only positive benefit (besides the electric company and DME making more money) is that my husband sleeps better since I'm not snoring. I am now working my way through a possible failure of bipap, on the road to another, higher-functioning machine. At least that's where I think I'm headed...still waiting on what the sleep doc will say. I am still hopeful that at some point I will be able to say that it is great. But right now, I can't.

Ha! I started at the bottom step in Oct 2006 and have worked my way up thru CPAP, APAP and now VPAP/BPAP Autos and have achieved all but the top step. I'm working on that step now. God bless cpaptalk, I doubt I would have made it this far w/o this forum and so many great members.

I think you need something between marginal and significant, like noticeable. That's where I'd put myself at this point. I'm only 6 weeks into my therapy, so expect things to get even better. I am definitely less fatigued during the day, and I'm sleeping all night with the nasal pillow mask now. Still waking up 2-3 times per night, though. It may be a bladder issue rather than an apnea issue, but I'm not sure when that would become obvious.
