Another Medical Adventure: M-Series Auto beeps and blinks!!

Post by JohnMudie » Sun Feb 06, 2011 2:59 pm

Last night my CPAP machine broke down at 4am and I woke to my partner shouting at me "Stop the beeping"

My M-series Auto now waits for a couple of seconds after powering up and then its lights blink and it beeps continuously
I suspect (but don’t know) that it is more than five years old. Luckily I am covered under Original Medicare and a Medicare Supplement. The original supplier , billmyinsurance,(loved you guys) doesn't do it any more.

Is it possible to replace it and pay for it under my Medicare and Medicare Supplement ?

If so what do I need to do to make it happen ?

I am looking for a

a/ Auto machine

b/ with a heated humidifier

c/ with a way of monitoring the data myself on my computer. I currently use a Smart Card reader and Encore Pro

d/ is QUIET. Otherwise my partner throws me out of her bed!!!

Comments and suggestions about procedures on how to get a replacement machine and choice of machine welcomed
Thanks
John M ( yes the John M from years ago)
Feeling grateful I have a Remstar plus for backup

Mine did that once when I had put the card in the wrong way. Is that possible?

Look at the lcd to see what the message says.

Is this the model that had the recall on the humidifier? I think there was some light blinking or beeping associated with the humidifier going...

Do a google search for the machine you have and add "humidifier recall".

It'll beep if the card is put in backwards...or if the card is inserted with the wrong side against the electrical contacts (inside....not visible.....just flip the card & re-insert).

It shouldn't blink or beep with the card out. Is this an intermittent problem, does it happen now every time you turn it on? Have you tried unplugging and replugging in the machine from the wall socket?

You may need to speak with the office of the insurance commissioner within your state to find out what avenues are available to you through medicare.

Is it possible that water got sloshed around in your humidifier then got into the machine?

JohnM,

I'm going to guess that the machine itself beeps twice as well as the blue lights at the same time. On the display it shows a triangle with a ! in the center. If this is the case then there is a major problem with the machine.

I have the same problem with one of mine, this started after it got wet inside.

Mine did that when the humidifier went out. New humidifier, and everything is as good as new. Have you tried it without the humnidifier attached?

This text was taken from the Meidcare Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) Local Coverage Determination (LCD)

"If a PAP device is replaced during the 5 year reasonable useful lifetime (RUL) because of loss, theft, or irreparable damage due to a specific incident, there is no requirement for a new clinical evaluation, sleep test, or trial period.

If a PAP device is replaced following the 5 year RUL, there must be a face-to-face evaluation by their treating physician that documents that the beneficiary continues to use and benefit from the PAP device. There is no requirement for a new sleep test or trial period."

I have been sidetracked by another medical adventure involving nternal bleeding and

hospitalization. I now have a spare of favourite mask packed in my hospital kit so I can jst

hook it up to their machine. I am not out of the hospital and finally talking to my

Respiratory Therapist who is investigating the situation.

So here are my responses to your comments and suggestions. Thank yuo for your support.

John

I pulled the card out and in. Didn't change anything

Look at the lcd to see what the message says.[/quote]

It has an exclamation point in a triabgle and at the top is says "Service Required"

I have plugged and unplugged. Happens every time I turn it on. Going to try my DME before

heading for the insurance commissioner. Nice Thought tho.

I am guessing I didnt make sure that all the water was out. I know I emptied it before

moving it. Next time I am going to make real sure ALL the water is out.
