Jaw has shifted from strap, now biting lower lip

Post by SuperGeeky » Thu Jan 20, 2011 5:32 am

Hi all: I'm a huge fan of the PapCap. It's very integral to my therapy!! It's the best solution I've found for open mouth breathing. However, as of late, I'm finding myself biting my lower lip. I'm speculating that my jaw has shifted out of place.

The inside of my lower lip doesn't have time to heal, it's developing into a hard knot and it's painful. Anybody else have this happen?? Is it my imagination my jaw has shifted due to Papcap??

Thanks,

SG

I don't use a papcap, but I experience a difference in my bite when using CPAP. I can tell it's pushing my lower jaw ever slightly forward and my teeth hit my lips differently. When I use the Quattro, which has to be somewhat tight at the bottom (I think the one I have is too big and a smaller one is on order), it definitely pushes my jaw back. So yes, all this equipment can be responsible.

Talk to your dentist. You might need some sort of jaw positioning device. Perhaps even an inexpensive "boil and bite" mouthguard from a sporting goods store will help.

I saw somewhere in the news, the actual face or bone structure was changing in folks who used a Cpap Mask. Small consolation considering life without CPAP therapy. Yeah, I use CPAP Pro 100% time with the Papcap. Have excellent results!! I wonder if the boil and bite maybe influencing displacement of the jaw. Hmmmm
