Time for a new CPAP machine first post

Post by 1Donald » Mon Jan 17, 2011 5:31 pm

I have been on a Respironics Remaster series M for the last 4 years. Back in August the humidifier tank must have leaked onto the motherboard and it sent an error message and quit working. It was repairable but to the tune of $300+ I got a loaner from Apria until my renewal which was the 15th of January. With the price of news CPAP's I'm wondering if anyone on the board has a suggestion for a machine that would be more reliable than the Respironics although I know nothing about the S9 autoset mentioned in other posts as design changes may make the is machine of choice on the board. Any suggestions as to other manufacturers such as Fisher Paykel would be appreciated

If price is a concern, or even if not, look at DeVilbiss's Intellipap Auto Adjust with Smartflex. Best selling machine on cpap.com, 3 yr. warranty, and very quiet. Small footprint, NO power brick, and if you aren't into buying software, you can use the Smart Codes off the machine to input online to get your efficacy data. SmartLink software will give you more detailed info, tho.

I've had both intellipap and the s9 autoset.
Of the two, intellipap was my favorite but... here's the pros and cons
intellipap, cheap, quiet, small footprint, easy for checking data (i bought the extra module) however it didn't have climate type hose and it did have incredible rainout for me with my cold bedroom. It was the easiest to take on trips or camping.

s9- ever so slightly quieter (almost miniscule) more of a pain to go throught the shenanigans to get the data, most still has to be read on computer. much harder to take on trips, definitely not the one to take camping but I love the climateline hose. Absolutely needed it for my cold bedroom. So I'm stuck with the lesser but better for me machine in my eyes. I'm working on going back to the intellipap for traveling and camping/power outages and to use in the summer.
good luck.

So.... get the intellipap and add an ozzie hose. The combination is likely cheaper than the S9, too!
I'm workin' on it.

Hi,

I would recommend either the Resmed S9 or the Fisher & Paykel S9. Both are good machines. The biggest difference is that the Icon is an all in one unit meaning the humidifier is built into the machine. The resmed S9 can separate into pieces.

Here is a video that we made for the S9 series http://www.sleepnation.tv/post/2337667545/resmeds9

We will be making one for the Icon soon,

I second and third the recommendation for the Intellipap. It is my backup/travel machine and I love it! If I had to buy a machine out of pocket, this would be it. My "regular" machine is an S9 and it is wonderful, but I'm not sure that it is enough better to justify the price difference. The Intellipap can be adjusted so that you don't even notice pressure changes...it is very smooth. The only noise difference I notice is that my breathing sounds are louder with the Intellipap. The actual fan/motor sounds are non-existent.

Yes, the lack of a heated hose is a problem with the Intellipap. If I used it more, I'd follow the suggestion to get the Aussie heated hose and then it would be the equal of the S9.
