Do I need to change pressure for elevation?

Post by yellowcason » Tue Dec 13, 2005 9:59 pm

I will be spending Christmas in Loveland CO. Do I need to raise or lower my pressure to adjust for elevation?

Thanks. Rebecca

Rebecca,

According to the CPAP.COM website, your machine (420G) has:
"Automatic altitude compensation adjustment."

You'll be fine.

Best wishes and happy holidays.

But check the altitudes - there are limits above which some machine s won't adjust automatically, so you might need it manually adjusted. You might have than info in your manual.
If not PB site for the 420G says: "For additional information or to place an order, call Puritan Bennett Customer Service
at 1-800-635-5267. "

According to their website it's 4982 ft.
Definitely higher than St. Marys, KS.....but about 900 ft. lower than where I live.

You'll be fine.

do I need to change pressure for elevation?

My machine (Remstar Pro2 cflex) only had automatic adjustment up to 7500 feet, when I went to visit my brother in Colorado (9200') I had to bump the settings up a bit. I was set at 12 for sea level, went up to 17 for the altitude, spend the week playing around with it to make it more comfortable, as I found 17 a bit too much for me. If I were you I'd leave it alone the first night, If you feel less rested after the first nights sleep then bump it up a notch. Also, remember to drink LOTS of water at altitude, especially the first 24 hours, and you may want to bump up the humidifier settings as well, the thin Colorado air is very dry.
