I have the Kindle ap on my I Pad, you need a credit cart to set up an Amazon acct, set a user name and password, identify your e reader as the delivery address. When you want to download you select from the kindle store, free or whatever charge, then you just log in and its delivered to whatever device you have on file. credit card gets charged automatically, lots of free stuff out there. Love E reading on my I Pad, can make the print really big and not worry about wearing glasses with my mask, I can even read using the quatro Kathy

It charges you $0 (zero) dollars. No charge on the credit card. But to setup a Kindle download account, it needs a credit card.

Like many other posters, I also got a Kindle for Xmas. I have downloaded the book to my Kindle and will read it on vacation. Leave tomorrow for a 10 day cruise to Mexico with CPAP on my shoulder or is it nose. Anyway thanks for the heads up on the ebooks.

If you already have an Amazon account you will only be asked for your password if you are downloading to a Kindle or a computer using a Kindle app. I don't know how other ebooks handle it. I have both a Kindle and a Macbook with a Kindle app. Make sure the download is going to the unit you want it on i.e. Kindle or PC

The link that -SWS provided shows the classics (out-of-copyright books) first. If you want to find more contemporary free Kindle books and games, here's one way to search at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?node=15 ... n&p_36=0-0. And if you want to see overall bestsellers, here's another link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/di ... r_kinc_mte. There you will see the top 100 free bestsellers on the right side and bestselling books that you have to pay for on the left. Enjoy!

Thank you, DreamOn.

Do you know, that the very same Amazon that immediately knows it can't let me download a free book. always shows adds for Amazon Prime -- which is only valid in the US?

There is a way to not let Amazon ( or any other website) know your location. You need to use a proxy server. This method is not fool proof but some people use it with success. This being the internet I am sure someone with more knowledge than me will jump in and provide current information.

The Cleveland Clinic free books can be obtained in Canada if you are using and iPad and the iBook reader, just open up the store and search for Cleveland Clinic. I downloaded a few of them and started to read the Guide to Sleep Disorders one last night. By chapter 3 I've already learned some things I did not know, based on what I've ready so far I would recommend this for anyone to read - very informative and easily understood.

Amazon also have a very active community board and free books are often posted by readers. you can subscribe using RSS: http://www.amazon.com/tag/kindle/forum/ ... 7SY3BVSESG

As others have mentioned, you don't have to own a kindle to read books, you can use the amazon reader app available for computers

I'll just mention that most e-books from Amazon, including The Cleveland Clinic Guide to Sleep Disorders, have DRM (digital rights management) protection. This means that each e-book is individually copy-protected so it can be read only on the specific e-reading device(s) registered to your Amazon account.
