May not get CPAP again....

Post by SnoozyQ » Fri Jan 07, 2011 9:02 am

This is just great.

I called a new DME today to get new equipment and they said that the CPAP I sent back to the crappy DME was probably near purchase price (after 'renting') and insurance will not cover a "start over". I had no idea.I can't afford out of pocket.I have to contact crappy DME to give the machine back (like that's ever going to happen). I couldn't even get supplies from them....

So now, I can't get a new one, and will probably never see my old one. And I quickly declined to pre-treatment lousiness.....

Oy...

Have you checked cpapauction.com? There are some good used and new machines there for not too much money.

I would file a formal complaint against the DME. Try to force them to give you what you want. Then once you get your equipment..run from them to a new DME and let them handle it from there.

I think the other option of order via online is a good one too, if you can make that fit within your budget. I would speak with your insurance and see if they will allow you to self file.

A month after receiving my first CPAP and supplies, my neurologist was very unhappy about the service I was receiving from them, and the lack of reports she was getting from them.
She suggested I should change DMEs to their new contract (I had my sleep study just as my Ins. Co. was cancelling one contract and starting a new one, so was shunted to the newly cancelled DME).
They tried to get me out of paying a second $50 deductible, but couldn't, HOWEVER I took ALL my supplies and CPAP machine with me to the new DME who just took over the contract agreement, with new supplies being given per the original dates.
Fortunately I checked all this with my referral department at my clinic before handing anything back to the original DME. The only thing I returned to them was the transponder thing-um-a-doobie that they used to confirm compliance which should have also provided the monthly report for my neuro.

Good luck!

I had trouble with my first DME also. I also turned in my machine but not until I got copies of everything they had and before contacting my new one to make sure I could get a new machine from them. I got the machine I wanted and haven't looked back. By the way, that first place has gone out of business. Or maybe seems a new company has taken them over so don't really know if it is really a new place or a makeover of the original.

Apparently, I was given incorrect information. I was told the rental machine had to go back and humidifier, supplies, etc were mine bc ins. had already paid for those.

Everyone I talk to has a different take on things....I'm still waiting to hear back from insurance and ex-DME.

Thankfully a friend had a machine that he wasn't using and I'm borrowing it until I sort things out with insurance and DMEs. Its a Respironics RemStar Pro M series.I don't know much about it. I managed to get my hoses to attach to it's hoses. I'm still using my awful mask but it's much better than nothing. I got into the setup so I can make pressure changes.
If I can't get my machine back, at least I can order masks for this one.
