Humidifier water question

Post by FatiguedMe » Sun Dec 26, 2010 9:58 am

Hi,
We are snowed in here in NC. I have a bottle of Aquafina in the fridge, would this be OK to use in humidifier tonight? I ran out of distiller water!
Thank you for any input.

Yes, this would be acceptable for a short while. Even plain tap water if you have good water. After you get distilled water again I would clean out my chamber with a little white vinegar and water, then soapy water. We are pretty snowy here in VIrginia, too. Unusual.
Good luck.
Mary Z.

I've used aquafina with no problems.

Ditto, if I ran out of distilled water I would use drinking water from a bottle or from the faucet. Later, when I could go to the store I would get the distilled and then rinse the humidifier's container and the air tube. It's all about the minerals in the drinking water which could leave residue.

OOPS! I was posting a reply and lost it!
Thank you all for your input. Our tap has a strong chlorine smell, don't like to use it.
Aquafina it all be for tonight. Now pray that we don't lose power here tonight.
If power goes I will camp out in my recliner.
Thank you all so much.

If you can drink it, it's safe to use in your humidifier. If it smells of chlorine, let it sit out for a few hours. Even the hardest water (high mineral content) will not harm your tank in just a night or two.

The fixation (and the notions some people have) about humidifier water would be funny if they weren't so sad. It ain't rocket surgery...

Thanks Link! I'm not obsessed, just don't know what is safe.
Hope you had a lovely Christmas! ;o)

Image - YOU have some GREAT points -- I live in the country and well water is used every night <Clean tank with vinegar every couple weeks> & used the same tank for 3 years. I have a backup tank but haven't seen any need to use it YET!

The FIXATION is more than SAD... If they were able to see the water used to clean & Humidify some of the buildings where they work/shop/visit??
"It would cause them to run Screaming!"
Do they DISTILL / FILTER all the AIR that they breath during the day?????
