My Respironics died during the night...

Post by ugogirl » Fri Dec 24, 2010 8:45 am

and I'm away from home. called DME in Virginia and they told me that because of the holiday, I'll need to bring it in for service on Monday. In the meantime, I'll be keeping everyone else awake with snoring and I 'll be napping during the day! Any suggestions?

did you ask for a loaner? They should be able to put you in touch with somebody where you are in order to get a loaner.

I asked for a loaner and she said they only have one office...in Newport News VA ... and it's closed! I'm checking to see if there's a place near my son in MD that will be able to help me.

Sorry to hear that but thats why its a good idea to have a backup/travel machine even if its an older slightly used model.

I agree that is why you should have a back-up machine -- but if you are very far from home that back up machine may not be of much help since most wouldn't bother lugging TWO machines when very far from home, especially if flying or limited on space in route.

If you travel often to the same place, such as a relative it might not be a bad idea to have some type of back up already in place. But from a practical point of view -- how often would a person have their machine malfunction away from home? Probably not very often -- although I admit WHEN it does happen it is a nightmare of locating one in these situations.

Sorry you are having trouble and hope you can find a solution. Does it help to sleep on your side? raising your head? sleeping in a recliner?

I'd be tempted to open the machine and see if I could find a fuse blown, or some type of reset button inside somewhere.

Are you sure it is dead?
Maybe you tripped a circuit? Since you are in a new place maybe there are more things on the circuit.
Verify the outlet is live with a lamp or something....

I'm curious. What exactly were the symptoms when your PR System One died?

My PRS1 died in August, and I know of one other on this board who's PRS1 died as well. Is there a common fault in these machines? When my machine died, it started to turn itself off in the middle of the night, at first infrequently, and then later, more frequently. Eventually it just turned itself off and would not restart. It was replaced under warrantee.
I'm workin' on it.

My PR SystemOne Bi-PAP Auto ran w/o a hitch for 6-7 months. I turned it off one morning and when I turned it back on it wouldn't come back on. I tried all the usual - unplug, plug, different outlet, different circuit, even took the humidifier off, even put the humidifier back on. No dice.

What is the exact error message and/or symptom?

My machine is currently in being assessed after turning itself off 3 times in 2 months (the last 2 times wihin 10 days of each other). The supplier said that usually PR will just replace the machine which makes me think this must happen on a regular basis?? I since have purchased a back up machine but my "good machine" is only 9 months old.

I'm now at my daughter's house in PA for Christmas. My husband tried plugging the machine in and so far it's working. I had a message "service required". it just started beeping during the night and the blower stopped. Keeping my fingers XXXd that it hangs on until Monday AM.
Thanks for all your help and a Merrry Christmas and happy New Year to all of you!

Sounds as if it is still working? And that it may have had water spilled inside it?

Gumby, it would be mighty darn hard to get water inside a PR S1. And I know I didn't get any water in the one I had.
