Runny nose and sneezing
Runny nose and sneezing
My new CPAP pt sounds like he has a cold, his nose is running and he is sneezing. This began after his first night of use. He was using heated humidification (setting of 2) I asked him to turn it up to 5 and call me back today with the results. Is there another suggestion besides him discussing this with his pulmonologist?
Re: Runny nose and sneezing
sometimes the humidity has to be turned down instead of turning it up.

Thanks for the input, I'll suggest that to the pt if he had no improvement last night.
Re: Runny nose and sneezing
All you can do is experiment with humidity to find out what is right for each person AND if the humidity is the reason for the the runny nose and sneezing.
I live in Ontario Canada, where winter has set in with a vengence! (below 0 celcius). Most of the year I use the humidifier in pass over mode (water in the chamber but no heat). When it gets this cold and probably until maybe March, I have my humidity level set at 1.
I also spray "Simply Saline" ( a few squirts) into each nostril about an hour before bedtime and this helps keep things clear.
Some people do better without the humidifier at all.
