Honestly... I've had both the shots and the drops... the shots worked better for me... but the drops I could do myself.

My doc did a whole round of allergy blood tests... said that I don't have food allergies (might be sensativities though)... but I'm pretty much allergic to everything else.

I had the UPPP surgery in June 2009 after sleep test results of 37 AHI. In August 2009, home sleep study results were 7.6 AHI. Went on CPAP in November 2009 and now have AHI of about 5 or less most nights. I believe I should have gone on CPAP first and never had the UPPP surgery. Please research thoroughly before submitting to the surgery. See the article at this site: http://en.allexperts.com/q/Sleep-Apnea- ... urgery.htm

I have also tested for allergies and have been taking shots for about a year and a half. May have seen some improvement as a result.

I had allergy testing in 1990 and started on shots. I took two a week for about 3 years and when they would retest me, results indicated that the shots were not making me less sensitive to the offenders (all grasses, trees, mold, etc. -- like others pretty much everything plus food allergies). My primary care doctor said if in that time no improvements were noted I was one of the ones that the shots don't work. In 2000, I retested and found my allergies were, in fact, much worse and it was recommended that the shots be started again (different allergist this time). Again no improvement after approximately 3 years and a change in insurance companies that didn't cover allergy therapy and I stopped taking the shots.

My son is now taking the shots and after about a year he has noticed his allergies are much better. Allergies can be inherited or so my family has been told. Some of my kids have them, plus some of the grandkids.

(edited to read that my son is currently taking the shots as I had a type that the now was typed as not)

I've had several rounds of allergy shots since 1983 and they have definitely been of help but, per guidelines, the shots would be stopped after I had been on monthly maintenance for several years. Each time, I'd be back in 18-24 months begging to be retested and then restarted on shots. The allergist I'm seeing here in PA has told me that it's now believed that about 10% of patients should be kept on maintenance shots for life and I seem to be one of the 10%. Patients can also be helped by shots and still test positive for the offending agents. It's really a case of how you feel, just like with cpap.

I'm definitely helped by shots, and I'd much rather be on a shot every 4-6 weeks than be miserable even when taking all the pills, sprays and drops that I need when I'm not taking them. Being allergic to life is no picnic!

Some allergy tests need to quiet some patience as they can last up to a month. Allergies are weird. There are ones that are genetically and there are ones that can start at any point in our lives. Allergy testing is important because those that suffer from allergies may be experiencing discomfort and symptoms that could be treated. Though, I don’t want to take any allergy tests because I know it has side effects.
