fisher paykel 242 humidity and mask questions.

Post by rxxdoc » Sat Dec 11, 2010 12:26 pm

Hi, I just started on CPAP 3 days ago. I love it! Physically I feel so much better, like a wet blanket has been pulled off of my mind. I don't hurt as much in the morning and I can move and think much better in the early AM.

I do have a couple of questions for anyone who has this machine.

1. What do you think of it?

2. I have dry sinus problems. It's winter and I am keep the humidifier @ 3.5. It is still too dry for my nose, but my mask is damp/wet in the AM. Hose is dry, but mask gets a bit damp.

3. How often do you clean your machine. Unless this thing gives me super powers, I can't see myself cleaning it every day. Hints and tips would be appreciated.

4. Have you tried other machines and if so, why fisher paykel?

I would really like to hear from other fisher paykel owners.

Thanks.

Glad to hear you're off to a good start. The problem with dampness in mask might be condensation of your exhaled air. Some people put cotton in their masks to act like a wick for this. Never had the problem myself, so I don't know what else to suggest.

As far as cleaning goes, we have forum members who clean every piece of equipment every day, others who clean once in a blue moon, and still others who clean every week or so. Find what works best for YOU.

If you'd fill in your profile with your equipment info, it would help us give more specific answers to your questions. Use text, not pix, please.

1. More important...What do YOU think of it...what are your concerns?
2. Try a sinus rinse or a neti pot
3. There is NOTHING to clean on the machine...just change the filters as indicated by F&P.
4. F&P makes lots of machines...you have what was the top of their line until they introduced the ICON.
I have a low end F&P and I love it...It is very quiet which is the most important thing to me.

Hi Doc, I have just started CPAP therapy myself, just short of two weeks. So far so good.
I too have the F&P 242, I think its a great machine. That being said, Ive never used any other machine before, so its kinda hard to draw comparisons.
Ive played with the humidity settings a bit finally settling on 4 (highest setting) Anything lower, I get all dried out to the point I cant breathe.
I was getting a bit of condensation in the hose and mask, but not enough to disturb me and last night I made a temporary hose cover from a pair of long john legs and a long sock Worked very well, while Im awaiting a regular hose cover.
A cover may help you, although you have indicated your hose is dry. If nothing else, its nice to have the hose covered just from the point of not having cold plastic touch your skin.
As far as cleaning, Im a once a week kinda guy.

Sleep well, Bob
Play nice. What goes around comes around.
