Anything I need to know about the Liberty?

I'm finally getting a new mask. I had no idea I could get a new one every six months. I've been putting up with this full face, digging in the nose, mask since I got my bipap in Aug 2009. The closest DME place that my insurance will deal with is an hour away. I've been sick for the past two weeks and the idea of driving out there is not on the top of my list. I mentioned that after some research it looked like the Liberty or Hybrid mask would be the best option for me. They kind of blew me off about the Hybrid, but said they would give me a Liberty. They said they could send it out instead of me driving all the way out there. I'm guessing I'll get it in a few days. Is there anything I should know about set up or use or anything with this mask since I have to figure it out on my own?

No clue about the mask but fwiw - my dme sends the RT out to my house. Ask them, esp if this mask leaks on you.

Hi,

The resmed Liberty is a great mask that gets a bad rap sometimes because it is a little bit harder to fit but with practice it is not that bad. my recomendation is that you fit the mouth piece first then worry about the nose pillows. I found that the head gear may have a break in period where it stretches out. So if you feel the need to re-fit every night at first it may take a few weeks. After I broke it in, I kept the same head gear through a couple more replacement cycles. Even then, it may continue to change occasionally requiring tweaks.

After days of effort I could never get the Liberty to fit properly in my nostrils. As soon as I moved it leaked like crazy. I even tried some of the recommendations for getting a better deal, like silicon, and it didn't improve. I had to return it and go back to the Quattro which damages the bridge of my nose.

I tried out the Liberty and unfortunately, did not like it very much. It pushed on my lower teeth too much and made them hurt. It also pushed on my upper lip so much it forced my mouth to close when I was sleeping, which kept waking me up. I want to try out the hybrid, because I have been told that since it rests on the chin more than the mouth, these problems would be solved. Good luck and keep us posted!

Speaking of DME's, make sure you have 30 day return privileges since the charges made (no doubt) allow for trial period and exchange if necessary. Use the exchange until you get a mask you can wear!
Also, they can order other masks they might not have in stock.

I changed to a Mirage Liberty from a Mirage Micro because the pressure on my forehead and nose made me crazy.

I love(?) this mask, although I'm only 8-weeks old in CPAP-land. Would also like to try the Hybrid. I do alternate between the small and medium pillows and the small and large mask. The small mask sometimes makes my teeth hurt as I must have it cinched a bit too tight, but my neuro thought it might just be too small, but then if I don't have the large mask tight enough, it leaks. I've only had this mask for a month, but am slowly getting it fine-tuned so it feels like... well... like I don't really have a mask on.

I do have problems with mouthbreathing, which I've found is due to the humidity not being high enough so my nasal passages get congested, but a PapCap fixes that once I get the humidity settings right. However I need the humidity quite high, and was getting rain out even with a hose cover (I like my bedroom very cool), so my DME sent me a climateline hose, which I used for the first time last night. Think I need to turn the temp. down and the humidity back up a bit, cuz I woke with a desert-mouth again.

You made a mistake.

1. The Hybrid comes with all three sizes of mouth cushions. The Liberty only one.

2. The Hybrid has a built-in chinflap. The Liberty has no chinflap (Hybrid patent prevents this).

3. If you prefer the mask without a chinflap (as I do), the Hybrid chinflap can be easily cut away with a pair of scissors.

4. Some people have complained that the headgear on the Liberty mask is inferior to the headgear on the Hybrid Mask.

5. On cpap.com the price for the Hybrid Mask is $119 and the price for the Liberty mask is $207 (Those clowns at ResMed!)

The ResMed Liberty is a more expensive and inferior copy of the Hybrid.

Actually, I have 2 Liberty masks in different sizes - they both came with pillows in all 3 sizes.

To Xena: It may have been a lab pack; Hubby got an FX with all FOUR sizes of pillows from our 'old' DME.
