Philips Respironics Improves Its S1 Sleep Therapy Platform

Philips Respironics Improves Its System One Sleep Therapy Platform

Late last month, Philips Respironics announced changes to its System One sleep therapy platform that would improve the system for both patients and providers.

Key among these enhancements is reduced sound levels. The company's advanced WhisperSmart technology puts the System One among the quietest devices on the market.

Other improvements include improved humidity output and control and an enhanced filtration design that may increase comfort without increasing noise or changes in efficacy.

System One BiPAP Pro and BiPAP Auto devices now come equipped with both bi-level and CPAP capabilities and can be easily switched between modes, and they now feature both 15 mm and 22 mm tubing options.

Agree with this wholeheartedly.

Why can't PR understand that the LCD should be able to report OVERNIGHT numbers instead of just 7 and 30 day averages?

And does anybody know how those averages are actually averaged?

Does the machine divide the total number of detected events in the last 7 days by the number of hours used in the last 7 days?

Or

Does the machine merely add up the nightly AHI's for the last seven nights and divide by 7?

The numbers you get from each of these two methods will likely be relatively close to each other --- if there's not much variation in how much you use the machine each night and how many events you typically have each night. But if your usage regularly varies by as much as a couple of hours (say many nights you only sleep with the CPAP for 5 1/2 or 6 hours and many nights you sleep for 7 1/2 to 8 hours) or if the number of events is bouncing around significantly for some reason (some nights you have 0-5 events and other nights you have 10-15 events), then the two different ways of possibly computing a seven day average are likely to give numbers that are not particularly close to each other.

Can you provide me with the link to the article? I'd like to give this link to the RT and sales folks at my DME. They will likely be special ordering me a System One BiPAP Auto in a few days (after the insurance paperwork is done), and when I asked about 15mm tube options for System One machines yesterday, the RT said System Ones didn't have that option. [I'll be switching from an S9 and I rather like that skinnier hose.]

If I had to choose, I would want the increased volume the larger hose would provide.

In this case, size doesn't matter. You'll get the same volume from either size hose. The difference would be that the air in the smaller hose would need to flow a little faster, that's all.

Theoretically, a higher speed of airflow might translate into greater noise, but I doubt it will make an audible difference. I've not heard anyone with a Resmed small diameter hose complain about noise that's generated by their hose. There's not even that much more noise when that same volume of air discharges through the very small hoses in your mask (how much louder depends on the mask)

How many people and masks do you plan to have supplied through that hose?
I'm workin' on it.

I just picked mine up today(replaced my 3 month old unit) and I am happy to tell you they did fix the LED and it looks really nice. I will know more after 8 hours on the hose! I will report back and let you know the rest of the story.
