Uncomfortable lower neckstrap with headgear

Post by kennasgrammy » Sun Nov 28, 2010 9:09 pm

Just switched from the Quattro because of severe nose bridge sores. Now wearing full face mask and headgear by Respironics called Fit Life. I really love the Fit Life -mask is very comfortable and no air leaks from the first time worn. Only problem is the lower strap on the back of my neck is pulling on my neck so much. Does anyone have any suggestions for this problem? Was wondering also if anyone had tried the Pad a cheek neck strap and if that helps with the pulling or only with chafing? Has anyone had this problem with this particular headgear (or maybe another) that might be able to help? Have the mask problem solved finally .....now if I can get this neck strap problem solved, I'll be good to go! Thanks so much for any suggestions.

I also have a fitlife mask, and the mask is great, the headgear was the problem. After several month of adjusting the headgear, I tried another headgear made by Resperonics, and it works much better. There are several that fit better than the one that comes with the mask.
Good Luck

I wear a knit cap that covers the crown of my head and the back of my neck. Takes up some of the slack in the straps and keeps them from sliding around, plus keeps them off of my head. Good Luck.

Hi - can you tell me which headgear from Respironics was better for you? Hubby and I have been trying to deal with Quattro for months and couldn't. Medical supplier just gave us these and never told us we could have trial periods with different masks. Found this out from a friend. With help from this site we both decided to try fitlife but hubby couldn't use it because his pressure is too high for this mask. He ended up with Fisher and Paykel Forma and he's now comfortable also.

Thanks for the replies - much appreciated.

This may sound crazy, but a while back, "Meth-head" took a swing at me and landed a shot on my jaw. My jaw was sore, so I loosened the strap on top (just above the top seal on the mask). It felt better and I ended up leaving the strap adjustment as it was when my jaw started feeling better. I realized that leaving this strap too tight placed pressure on the mask straps. Just a thought.

HI:
I use two. One has F&P on the back, and I'm not at my home at this time, to look for more on that one. The on I have with me "RESPERONICS"
http://WWW.comfortseries.respironics.com.
I had to add a piece over the ear, so when the top strap was hooked, it pulled down, instead of up and I had less leaks. You could do this by just pinning with a saftypin.
The head gear that came with the fitlife, we actually had to take a tuck in the center back, which helped, but not as good as the headgear we are using now.
Hope this helps.

I switched to the PAPCAP from PUR-SLEEP. I discarded my old headgear and hitched my mask right up to the PAPCAP. It's like having a stocking cap on sorta. Really, more like that bandana thing that bikers wear underneath their helmets, but the tie straps in the back dont tie, they just come around to the front, from the back right side around to the front left, and vice versa. They have velcro loops on them where you install the mask clips. The top of the mask is velcro'ed to the front of the cap. Ever since, my mask doesnt move, slip, or leak. And the cap/straps are so comfy I hardly know they are there at all. It's a wonderful thing.
