Respironics PR System 1 users ??

I'm the type that would lose the funnel or drink the water out of the sports bottle

But with regards to the op I do like the machine to me it is quiet with the software and some pressure adjustments my AHI is down to .4. I have been on cpap for ten years this is the first data capable machine I have had. I must say I was clueless prior to finding this board all I did was put the water in turn on the machine and go to sleep. Aflex was new to me and altho I had no trouble without it I am finding I like it

I really like the System One auto better than my M Series Auto.

The air delivery is "softer". I don't know how to describe it any differently.

The humidifier holds more water in the chamber and is a better humidifying system.

I like the Encore Viewer 2 (works with both System One and M Series) because it gives more details.

Dealing with getting into the Setup menu is easier (no unplugging and plugging in while holding buttons down). You just hold down the 2 buttons until it beeps and then choose "Setup".

The data card (now a SD memory card) is better since I no longer need the special card reader.
The swivel hose is better to for people who move around a lot in their sleep.

That's all I can think of at the moment and, of course, those are only my opinions.

Agreed! Yep!! ALl the things i love about mine too. AND Its quieter then the old M.

- I hate the ergonomics of the System 1's humidifier. It's harder to fill (I frequently spill) that the one for the M Series. However, it is larger capacity.

I solved that buy getting a collapsible funnel at the dollar store. Haven't spilled since, and can fold the funnel up and put it in the travel case.

This is the only machine I have used so I can't add much, except that my family is surprised at how quiet it is. And, as someone mentioned earlier, the large on/off button is really handy and it's easy to reach over and turn up the humidifier durng the night if necessary.

I also use a small bottle when filling my humidifier (also use it in my M Series).

The point is that the humidifier tank could have been designed to allow easy filling without chance of spillage. Instead, RP produces a tank that requires great care when filling. Clearly, the designer of these things is NOT someone who ever uses a cpap!

Yeah, I think the S1 humidifier water tank is an over reaction to the M Series humidifier water tank problem. I really don't like this water tank. The "Legacy" series humidifier tank was MUCH the better system to my way of thinking. Tho truthfully I liked the Resmed S8 H3i humidifier water tank the best. Easy view, easy access, easy fill.

I haven't had any problems with mine. My only complaint is that the LED screen doesn't light up and so its damn near impossible to read...considering how flipping cheap that would have been for them to do...

Yup, yup. I agree. No backlight on the LCD screen is an act of sheer stupidity by PR!!!

On the other hand, the swivel hose attachment and its placement on the humidifier is a welcome feature, don't you think?

I don't honestly know if I like it better than my Autoset S8.
So far, its been a hit and miss thing for me.
I've had it for 3 weeks and my AHI is 5 (on the Autoset, it was 3.9 consistently)

I have it set on auto, pressure 12/6, biflex set at 2, max. ps at 6, flex-type is biflex.
So far, I don't have the software.

As Hawthorne wrote the air delivery is softer, yes it's hard to put words on it.

The rain out control is a winner for me and the hose connection is very handy.

Yes it would be a good idea the backlight for the LCD, and something I rally miss is the stream of air the S8 keeps going on to dry out the hose. But I imagine that should be a patent thing from Resmed.

I need to add that the pressure pulses had helped me to learn to breath more deeply, I was a bad shallow breather or even stopped breathing while awaken, now it's very rare that I will get a pressure pulse while dozing.

I rarely spill the water. I don't open the tank to refill it. I take the tank in the air with my left hand in a inclined position and I fill in until I feel the weight of the tank is what I remember for a full thank. Yes I check the level and if there is more needed I repeat the trick. You get use at this procedure

Good grief folks, the additional humidifier capacity, and its "no spill" design (short of turning the machine upside down), far outweigh any minuscule problems with refilling it. I refill mine from a gallon bottle of distilled water, and the only time I remove the lid is when the bottle is first opened and somewhat awkward to handle. Oh my, it must take me all of 10 seconds to remove the lid, fill the humidifier, and replace the lid. How do I ever stand such horrid inconvenience? Give me a break.

I also don't understand the complaints about the carrying case. It's made from the same material as the previous cases, as far as I can tell, and has only slightly less storage capacity. Quite frankly, I prefer the smaller profile, and find it both easier to carry and store in the airline's overhead bins.

In all other respects, except for the valid complaint of having no back-light display, this is by far the best of the three Respironics xPAPs I've owned in the seven years of my therapy (I don't buy Resmed machines). My only other "complaint" is that they should not have abandoned a filter cover, which would eliminate the "leaping filters syndrome."

Changing settings is very simple, the blue lights are gone, the machine is whisper quiet, the software delivers all the data you need to monitor and manage your treatment, and the automatic humidification feature works like a charm.

I'd give it 4 1/2 stars out of 5 rating.

The PR carrrying case (and previous Respironics case from the Legacy series) have never had the padding that the Resmed S8 carrying cases have. Given the COST of these PAPs I much prefer having that extra padding!!!!

AND the Respironics Legacy series humidifier and the Resmed H3i and H4i humidifiers were much preferred by me. You could EASILY see the water level in the tank and a small funnel took care of easily filling the tank.

I use a small funnel to top up my water container. I don't take the top off unless I am washing it (which happens very rarely). I just put the funnel in the hole in the top and make sure it is beside (not over the connection tube thing). I just fill it to about 75% because I have had it overflow while filling. It takes just a few seconds to top it off this way and I only need to do it every 3 or 4 days.

If you're that concerned about padding, and travel with your xPAP extensively, then you probably should get one of these.

And you find it difficult to judge the water level with printed indicators on both sides?



Oh well, to each his/her own. The fact that this humidifier tank design prevents water from sloshing into the electronics makes it vastly superior in my opinion.

You don't have to open a lid and pull the tank out to see how much water is in a Resmed H3i or H4i. Just look at your Sy7 or S8 sitting on the night stand. And the same holds true for the Respironics Legacy series (the tanks). None of these had water problems. Only the M Series did.

I knew I got a funnel with one of them. I never used the funnel but poured directly right from the bottle. Maybe that's why mine stay soo nice n clean

IF I had 3 hands I could hold the funnel too.
