Nasal Pillow Tickles Nose

Post by B_4 » Thu Nov 11, 2010 10:34 am

From time to time my Swift Lt nasal pillow will tickle the inside of one of my nostrils. It is very annoying when it happens. I have to take the mask off and rub the end of my nose and it completely wakes me up. Anyone ever have this happen and is there a good preventative solution?

It happens to me about one night in 3.

Not familiar with the Swift, but is there another size pillow available? How about my annoyance, a tickling in one eustacion(sp) tube for the first 5 minutes?

Do you have cats with very fine hair that gets every where? We don't let the cats upstairs, but one very thin hair actually got inside my mask. I didn't find it until I washed it. Very annoying.

DreamDiver, how the HECK do you keep your cats out of things and places? I gave that fruitless endeavor long ago.

Seriously, though... I have found a cat hair in my mask as well. I have gotten so that, while I clean masks in the morning, a few minutes before I'm going to strap in, I start the machine FIRST for an air flush of the hose/mask chamber (especially important for nasal pillows as can't get IN them to clean) followed AFTER that with a quick wipe with a mask wipe.

Cat hair aside and even if one does manage the miraculous feat of keeping them out of something, dust bunny bits can get in during day from a/c, heating, or even just normal air movement in a lint laden environment from sheets/etc.

Since I started doing that have seldom had nose tickles with the nasal pillows.

Yup, for me it was the trimming. Have to do it at least once a week. I found the straight saw blade type works better than the round kind. Better found in search engines as an "eyebrow trimmer."

We have a door between upstairs and downstairs. It simplifies things considerably.

Ah yes... that would. However, even in such situations, I am sure that my cats are either direct descendants, if clones/reincarnations of Heinlein's cat who walks through walls.....

I get condensation in the pillow cones and that can cause nose tickles.

In addition to all the usual rain out prevention (hose cover, hang the hose, etc.), I purchased some Swift Barrel covers from Padacheek. It has greatly reduced (though not entirely eliminated) the condensation in the pillows, and tickles don't bother me anymore. It's also really nice to have the tip of my nose against the soft fabric instead of the plastic-like feel of the nasal pillow.

You can also try this: before you put on your mask for the night, rub and scratch your nose for a few minutes. Sometimes that works for itchy noses that will be trapped in a nasal mask or ff mask for the rest of the night.

Seconding this: I also really like my Swift Barrel covers from Padacheek.
