Might one "get over" apnea?

Post by sharonious » Fri Jan 21, 2005 3:39 am

Can you be "cured" of apnea? My first sleep study showed severe apnea and my second 3 months later showed none. Neither was done with CPAP. Pulmonologist says he will believe first report and has ordered a third sleep study, the first one that will be done with CPAP. Between the study showing severe apnea and one showing no apnea, I weaned myself off nighttime pain and sleep meds. I'd like to think I helped myself because they were (possibly) relaxing the muscles in my throat and causing the apnea. Is that possible? It seems too good to be true but I am no longer jerking awake gasping for breath.

Yes - but someone else here will give you a better answer than that.
