Hi All,
I am on my third month of cpap and generally it has given me a new lease of life.
However, since moving house recently I found that I was waking up once or twice every night and I was feeling stuffed up and phlegmy every morning.
One morning I felt water trickling from beneath the mask.
My first move was to consult the Oracle, i.e. this website, and do a bit of research. A few posts suggested that excessive moisture in the hose might be the issue.
One thread suggested that switching off the humidifier completely might help.
So I tried setting the humidifier to its lower setting. Things slightly improved but I still felt bunged up in the morning.
So I switched off the humifier completely. It was like flipping a switch. My nights became uninterrupted and I feel like I am getting better sleep.
I have a humidity meter in my bedroom. It shows that even with the a/c on the air humidity remains constanly at around 40%. In my previous house my bedroom was practically moisture-free. I can only assume that the extra humidity in the air meant that I did not need the humidifier.
I just wonder how many people use the humidifier when they dont need to?
Anyway, another victory chalked up to cpaptalk.com.
George
Feeling stuffed up in the morning? Try this.
Re: Feeling stuffed up in the morning? Try this.
Where I live the air is extremely dry, especially in summer (about half the year), so I think I will need the humidifier. However, my sleep guy told me that lots of people do not use it in summer, which seems odd to me. A humidity of 10% is not unusual here, so really dry!
Anyway, good you found a solution that works for you.
