Just picked up equipment!! Tonight will be my first night!

Post by msradar65 » Mon Nov 01, 2010 3:11 pm

I just got back from the DME company. The therapist was great. He also is on CPAP so he was able to give a lot of positive tips and info. I did go with Swift LT For her. He recommended that over the regular LT. I signed up for automatic replacement program so I will get filters, pillows, headgear and other stuff per schedule billed directly to my insurance company. I was a little upset that he did not give me the extra pillows in the kit.

I got S9 Autoset and I am set at a constant pressure of 8. So we shall see how it all goes tonight.
Diagnosed 08/31/10. Titration 9/02/10. Started CPAP 11/01/10. Auto mode 10-15cm. Alternate mask GoLife for her. Back up mask Full-life full face w/Pad-a-cheek mask liner. Comtec CMS F50 wrist pulse oximeter. Sobakawa Cloud Pillow, Sleepyhead software

I'm set on a constant pressure of 8. I need to decide if I want to use the ramp or not. I wore it for an hour with the therapist and he had it set for ramp 5mins. I didn't even notice when he said you have been at your set pressure all this time. How does it feel? I was like fine! lol

So I am excited to get starting. I am tired of being tired!!

Dear MSRadar65,

Good luck tonight. Your DME should be giving you ALL of the nasal pillows that come with the mask and then you can trade them here with other folks so that you have some replacements for when you need them.

I am also on a pressure of 8. I used the ramp on the first night, but decided that it felt like it wasn't enough air for me and so I turned the ramp off after that. You are welcome to use your ramp, but if you feel like you are not getting enough air, just turn off that feature.

Best regards,

Jersey Girl

I was a little upset that he did not give me the extra pillows in the kit.
I think you SHOULD be upset and here's why:

1. You may find after actually trying to sleep with this mask that the nasal pillow size is wrong. The dynamics afecting your face are different lying down in your own bed than elsewhere. If you need to go up or down a size, you will have to now call and wait until it's convenient for your DME to get another size to you, and possibly pay for it. If you're having trouble at 2 a.m. and you are having a hard time sleeping, too bad.

2. The pillows last about 1 month of continous use (your mileage may vary). They start to get soft and don't hold a seal as well. Often the inner pillows invert more easily as the pillows age. You could take advantage of the Great Pillow Exchange here on this list where, for the cost of postage, you can trade the sizes you find you don't need for the ones you do. Now, instead, you will have to BUY the replacement pillows from your DME. Even if insurance covers them (many insurers do pay for 2 nasal pillows per month), that's two pillows you wouldn't otherwise have to buy at all.

3. You PAID for all three pillows, they are part of the package you purchased containing your mask and accessories. Now the DME can sell or give out those other pillows to someone else at your expense.

Yeah I was not happy...but if after tonight these pillows do not work I will be in tomorrow asking for the rest in the set!!! LOL Let me play with them and see what fits best. For now I am not going to rock the boat. I was told I get new pillows every month. So we shall see.

good luck msradar65. If you have any discomfort from the pillows work with your RT. I did not have my headgear adjusted properly and the pillows gave me a raw spot on my nose. Good luck! My wife has the old me back and I am much more mentally sharp at work all after 1 week.

Awesome wish you the best of luck on your therapy. You are in the right place if you need assistance with it as you go.

Welcome to therapy !!!!!
You will notice a difference in a week/two weeks.
Stay with it, the mask can take a little getting used to.

With a pressure of 8, I would not ramp. But that is your call. I have mine set at 5 minutes (down from 20 minutes when I first started)
Just watch the inside of you nose and make sure you are not drying out.

This will be one of the best things you have done for yourself.

Let us know if you run into any roadblocks.

Welcome. You may end u just turning off the ramp. I started with a pressure of 9 and with the ramp felt like I wasn't getting enough air. Upto a 12 now and still find it comfortable with ramp. good luck tonight
